Netbooks support EMEA PC market

The fast-growing market for netbooks helped to nurse the EMEA PC market through a tough fourth quarter in 2008, according to the numbercrunchers at IDC. Total PC unit sales were up just 1.8% year-on-year to 29.13 million units. HP claimed top spot with 21.6% market share, shifting 6.29 million units, with Acer in second place pumping 4.82 million units through the EMEA channel. Read full story

Russian IT market worth US$17.4 billion in 2008

The Russian IT market will be worth US$17.4 billion for full year 2008, according to data from the latest report on global IT spending released by the European Information Technology Observatory (EITO). The 2008 market value represents 17.5% year-on-year growth and with a similar increase predicted next year, Russian IT spend will smash through the US$20 billion barrier in 2009. Read full story

PC price points slide

The latest PC shipment data from the number crunchers at Gartner has shown first quarter 2008 unit sales in Western Europe climbing 14.1% year-on-year to 15.2 million units. The change in the dollar-euro exchange rate allowed vendors to reduce average selling prices (ASPs) much faster than expected, according to the team at Gartner. Read full story
