Vietnam consumer tech growth continues

Research house GfK’s latest analysis of the ICT, telecoms and consumer electronics market in Vietnam indicates that the total market value grew 13.2% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2017 to hit US$2.12 billion. The strong growth was driven by sales increases in six of the seven segments that GfK tracks. Telecoms sales were up 18.3% year-on-year at US$1.07 billion. Read full story

Lifestyle Tech, Smart Home and Gaming identified as top growth categories by APAC consumer tech channel

DISTREE Asia Pacific (APAC) has released additional findings from its 2017 APAC Consumer Tech Channel Survey. Lifestyle Tech, Smart Home and Gaming were identified as the top three categories with the most growth potential in APAC, according to this year’s survey. Christophe Painvin, Event Director for DISTREE APAC, commented: “These results demonstrate the continued growth potential that exists across the APAC region. Gaming monitor sales rocket

The fast-growing billion-dollar global e-sports economy drove worldwide gaming monitor sales up 175% year-on-year for the second quarter of 2017, according to the latest figures from CONTEXT, the global IT market analysis company. The rapid growth of gaming monitors was not quite enough to offset an overall 3% year-on-year decline in worldwide monitor shipments, driven by lower sales in China. Read full story

EMEA printer shipments climb

Unit shipments of printer hardware to EMEA improved in the second quarter of 2017, climbing 4% year-on-year, according to data from research house CONTEXT. While there was positive performance across the board, the increase was driven mainly by shipments of multifunction inkjet devices. Sell-in to Western Europe (WE) accounted for almost 70% of all printer hardware shipments to EMEA. Shipments of laser multifunction printers (MFPs) registered growth of 10% year-on-year and were largely responsible for the overall increase. Read full story

DISTREE APAC survey shows Malaysia leads regional Consumer Tech Channel Business Confidence Index

DISTREE Asia Pacific (APAC) has announced preliminary results from its 2017 APAC Consumer Tech Channel Survey. The survey showed that consumer tech distributors and retailers in Malaysia had the highest confidence levels in the region in terms of business prospects. Sri Lanka recorded the second highest confidence level, followed by Bangladesh in third, with India and Vietnam in fourth and fifth respectively. Read full story

Desktop 3D printer shipments up 17% in first quarter

The first quarter of 2017 saw both worldwide shipments and revenues in the 3D printer space increase, with activity ramping up in the midmarket, according to market research firm CONTEXT. Shipments in the personal and desktop 3D printer segment climbed 17% year-on-year to hit 88,000 units. The average price of a personal and desktop 3D printer slid to US$970 in the first quarter, down from US$1,142 a year earlier. Read full story

Research firm GfK has identified strong growth in the Asia Pacific (APAC) consumer technology market in the past year, driven by the growth and development of categories such as action cameras and wearables.
