Russian tech market up 17.6% in first quarter

Research house GfK’s most recent TEMAX analysis of the ICT, telecoms and consumer electronics market in Russia indicates that the total market value hit US$6.06 billion in the first quarter of 2018 – up 17.6% year-on-year. The growth was driven by a sharp increase in telecoms sales, which climbed 36% year-on-year to reach US$2.13 billion. Revenues from IT jumped 10.8% to US$556.4m with consumer electronics (CE) sales up 9.7% at US$930.4m. Read full story

Smart toy revenues to hit US$18 billion in 2023

A new report from Juniper Research claims that smart yoys will represent an US$18 billion hardware and software market by 2023, up from an estimated $6 billion in 2018. This increase will primarily be driven by the growing popularity of smartphone‑connected toys and related in-app purchases, which are projected to grow by 69% annually over the next five years. Krusell reveals first quarter top seller list

Accessories brand Krusell has released its top seller list for the first quarter of 2018. The list of devices is based on the number of pieces of custom made mobile and smartphone cases ordered from Krusell during the first quarter of 2018. The list reflects the sales of phones on six continents and in more than 50 countries around the globe. Apple’s iPhone 8 took top spot on Krusell’s first quarter top sellers list, with devices from Samsung, Huawei and Sony also appearing in the rankings. Read full story

Middle East tech retail channel feels VAT impact

The Middle East consumer tech retail channel has experienced a rollercoaster during the last few months, mainly due to the introduction of 5% VAT in the UAE and Saudi Arabia on the 1st January 2018. Sales in December 2017 were buoyant with many consumers choosing to purchase big-ticket items prior to the implementation.
