Ceiva enters European retail channel

Connected digital photo frame vendor Ceiva has struck a European retail agreement with DSGi. Ceiva offers fully connected frames which every day automatically receive new photos sent from family and friends anywhere in the world. The Ceiva frames will now be available throughout the UK and Europe through select DSGi retailers including Currys, PC World, online and Pixmania.com. Read full story

DSGi moots Italian retreat

European IT and consumer electronics retail giant DSGi has announced plans to close up to 40 of its Italian stores over the next two years. London-quoted DSGi, which owns a number of retail chains across Europe, has informed the staff concerned and is currently working with unions to review each store on a case-by-case basis. i2 targets Sub-Sahara region

Mobile phone distribution and retail giant i2 had officially opened a new office in Johannesburg, South Africa, as the company sets its sights on rapid expansion in the Sub-Saharan region. The new regional office will oversee i2 activities in Ghana, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Angola, Reunion and Senegal. i2 plans to aggressively ramp up the number of retail outlets it has in the Sub-Saharan region. AMD trains secret agents

Components giant AMD has invited channel partner employees to become a ’secret agent whose task is to thwart the evil Zed’s plans for world domination’. No it’s not the latest development in AMD’s ongoing market share battle with fierce rival Intel. It’s actually a bespoke pan-European partner engagement programme created by Total Marketing Network (TMN), which combines multi-lingual game-based learning for channel partner employees. BitDefender finds Focus for UK push

Internet security software outfit BitDefender has struck a national marketing and distribution agreement with Focus Multimedia in the UK. Emirates Computers adds retail showroom

Emirates Computers (EC) has opened a new showroom in the Khalidiya Mall in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The retail outlet features the latest kit from Dell and Nokia as well as a range of IT accessories. EC will offer product demonstrations in its outlets, which it claims is a service in line with Dell and Nokia’s own concept retail outlets. Read full story

Jumbo Electronics has boosted its UAE retail network, opening four new mall-based stores across the Emirates. Jumbo reckons that the new outlets - located in Khalidiya and Al Wahda malls in Abu Dhabi, Sahara Centre in Sharjah and Festival City in Dubai – will enhance the company’s position as a leading retailer in the consumer electronics and technology sectors. HTC hones retailer skills

Smart device vendor HTC has ramped up the sales skills in its Middle East channel with technical training sessions for its retailers and direct partners in the UAE, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. The three-hour training sessions focused on the features of HTC devices, equipping the retail staff with the skills required to respond to customer queries. Read full story
