LG lands Class deal in Lebanon

LG Electronics has appointed Class as a retail partner for its GSM products in Lebanon. The move forms part of an ongoing effort by LG’s mobile device unit to enhance the level of service available to customers in Lebanon. HP extends Open Force across Middle East

HP’s channel team is rolling out its ‘Open Force’ retail development scheme across the Middle East after a successful trial run in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Western Digital strikes Jarir deal

Hard drive giant Western Digital has struck a deal that will see Saudi Arabian retail giant Jarir Bookstore sell the vendor’s consumer line of portable storage devices in its stores. Microsoft targets pirates in Kuwait

Microsoft Gulf teamed up with Kuwait’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry to coordinate recent raids on two local computer shops using PCs loaded with pirated software. The raids, which took place in Hawalli, Kuwait, resulted in the confiscation of PCs with unlicensed software. Read full story

BrightStar Europe signs Phones 4u deal

BrightStar Europe has struck a supply agreement with UK-based retailer Phones 4u. Under the terms of the deal, BrightStar will supply the retailer with notebooks and accessories for resale in the 440-plus Phones 4u stores nationwide. BrightStar Europe, which was established in 2007, is a joint venture between distribution giants Tech Data and Brightstar Corp. Read full story

BenQ boost in Egypt

Hardware vendor BenQ’s sales in Egypt climbed 55% year-on-year for the first half of 2008. The vendor also claimed that sales of its Joybook notebooks quadrupled in Egypt, but did not disclose the actual volume of units shifted. BenQ has been working hand-in-hand with in-country partner IBS to boost its presence in the Egyptian market. Read full story

Jacky’s opens second Sharjah store

UAE retail player Jacky’s Electronics has opened its second outlet in Sharjah, UAE. The new store, located in Sharjah’s City Centre mall, will cater to the growing local population. HP brings ‘store in store’ to Middle East retail

HP has announced the official launch of its ‘store in store’ retail concept in the Middle East. The initiative, which involves setting up a dedicated space solely for HP kit within a retail outlet, has kicked off in the CompuMe outlet in the Mall of the Emirates in Dubai, UAE. Further HP ‘store in store’ experiences are planned for retail outlets in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Egypt. Read full story
