IRIS eyes retail opportunity

Optical character recognition specialist IRIS Group will attend this year’s Digital Consumer Channel (DCC) event in Fujairah, UAE, to show retailers from across the Middle East its complete range of mobile scanning devices. Trinity targets Middle East retail channel

IT hardware distributor Trinity Electronics hopes to boost its sales through the Middle East retail channel. The distributor, which is authorised by a number of vendors including ASRock, Asus, BenQ, Foxconn, Samsung and Seagate, recently established an office and warehouse facility in Jebel Ali free zone to serve as a regional hub. Trinity is attending the upcoming Digital Consumer Channel (DCC) event in Fujairah, UAE, to strengthen the company’s relationships with major retailers from across the Middle East. Read full story

Best Buy makes European move

US retail giant Best Buy has crossed the pond for a crack at the European market. The IT and consumer electronics retailing giant has struck a deal with independent mobile phone retailer Carphone Warehouse. Under the terms of the deal, Best Buy is acquiring a 50% stake in Carphone Warehouse’s European and US retail operations for US$2.1 billion cash. The new venture plans to introduce Best Buy stores across Europe. Read full story

Sana Security enters UK retail channel

Security software vendor Sana has struck a UK retail agreement with retail giant DSGi. The deal means that Sana Security’s PRSC online identity protection software is now available in all 711 PC World and Currys retail outlets. The software offers consumers a tool to defend themselves against hackers and criminals seeking to steal identity, banking and other personal information while they surf the internet. Nvidia names Middle East retail manager

Graphics player Nvidia has named Ramesh Ramanandan as retail manager for the Middle East region. In his new role, Ramanandan will be tasked with driving Nvidia’s retail relationships, securing new business opportunities and working closely with channel partners to deliver and supply appropriate product. Sharaf debuts DG Help

UAE retailer Sharaf DG has launched a technology services division called DG Help. The new service will allow consumers in the UAE to dial a toll free number for a free check-up of their PCs, laptops, wireless connections or home theatre systems, irrespective of whether the kit was purchased at Sharaf DG. Callers can arrange an appointment with a Tech Doctor who will schedule a visit to the customer to troubleshoot any problems. Read full story

Connected digital photo frame vendor Ceiva has struck a European retail agreement with DSGi. Ceiva offers fully connected frames which every day automatically receive new photos sent from family and friends anywhere in the world. The Ceiva frames will now be available throughout the UK and Europe through select DSGi retailers including Currys, PC World, online and Pixmania.com. Read full story
