LG opens mall-based mobile phone outlet

Mobile phone vendor LG Electronics has opened an outlet at City Mall in Amman, Jordan. The vendor – working alongside its in-country distribution partner 7Global – used the opening ceremony as an opportunity to demonstrate its latest Cookie phone and offer consumers special introductory prices. Al Hasoob handed Zotac rights in Saudi

Smartphone sales jump at Jacky’s

UAE retail outfit Jacky’s Electronics has seen strong demand for smartphones in the first quarter on 2009 with sales climbing 30%. Jacky’s did not reveal if the rise was year-on-year or sequential and did not disclose if the stated percentage rise referred to the number of units sold or the value of smartphone purchases. Emax opens giant store in Dubai

Retailer Emax has opened what it claims is Dubai’s largest consumer electronics store. The 115,000 square feet store, which is located in the Oasis Centre on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai, UAE, stocks more than 300 brands of consumer electronics and electrical appliances, according to Emax. Jumbo wins Dubai mall award

Jumbo Electronics has been named top electronics store of 2008 at Deira City Centre in Dubai, at the mall’s annual awards for retailers. It is the second year in a row that jumbo has picked up an accolade at the awards. Last year Jumbo was named best electronics destination for 2007. Read full story

Belkin buoyed by first half growth

Peripherals and accessories vendor Belkin is growing its Middle East and Africa (MEA) sales at a dramatic pace. Belkin, which offers a massive portfolio of 3,500 products, recorded MEA sales in the first half of fiscal year 2009 more than double the revenues achieved during the whole of fiscal year 2008. Belkin reckons it can continue its strong sales growth and will attend Digital Consumer Channel (DCC) in May 2009 to further strengthen its relationships with the region’s top retailers. SanDisk ramps up Middle East retail presence

SanDisk boosted its retail reach across the Middle East and Africa in 2008, increasing the number of stores its flash memory products could be found in by 25% to just under 8,600. Overall unit sales were up 44% year-on-year in 2008 and the vendor is keen to continue its growth this year. SanDisk will once again participate at Digital Consumer Channel (DCC) MEA to reach out to new and existing retail partners from across the region. Read full story

CCC eyes Egyptian retail channel

Dubai-based Concentration Computer Company (CCC) plans to expand its regional retail channel reach at Digital Consumer Channel (DCC) MEA. Memory and storage-focused CCC used last year’s DCC as a platform to push into the Saudi Arabian market. Buoyed by this success, CCC will head back to Fujairah, UAE in May for DCC MEA 2009 to track down a new set of retail partners that will help the company break into Egypt. Read full story
