GearZap launches sleeve shop

Online retailer GearZap.com has launched what it claims is the biggest netbook sleeve store on the internet. The site, which offers a range of netbook cases and accessories, is a ‘one-stop-shop’ for netbook owners, according to the retailer. The site carries a number of brands including Cool Bananas, Belkin, Targus, Tech Air, Pat Says Now and Pakuma. Read full story

DSG upbeat on interim results

Electronics and IT retail giant DSG International has released interim results for the 24 weeks ending 17 October 2009. Group sales were down 1% year-on-year at US$5.46 billion with an underlying gross margin of 0.4%. Total pre-tax losses after deducting non-underlying charges of US$9m were US$37.9m – a 58% decrease on the similar figure a year earlier. Read full story

Middle East retail channel sales bounce back in October

The Middle East Retail Academy (MERA) Monthly Monitor Report (MMR) for working month October 2009 showed a sharply increased satisfaction with sales volumes from both vendors and retailers. The Sales Volume Index climbed to 6.97 (scored out of 10) from just 5.42 a month earlier as the GITEX period, the launch of Windows 7 and the beginning of the traditionally strong fourth quarter, breathed new life into the region’s retail channel. Jumbo opens new store in Al Ain

UAE retail giant Jumbo Electronics has opened its third store in Al Ain, UAE. The new outlet, located in Bawadi Mall takes Jumbo’s UAE retail network to 30 stores. The store was officially opened at a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Peter McElwaine, CEO, and JP Nambiar, head of retail division at Jumbo Electronics. Read full story

Gartner offers European insight for third quarter

Research house Gartner has revealed that PC shipments in Western Europe fell 0.3% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2009 to 16.7m units. Despite the year-on-year drop, third quarter shipments were up 30% sequentially compared to the second quarter of 2009. Read full story

FCC opens new retail outlet in Kuwait

Future Communications Company (FCC), an authorised distributor of Nokia phones and accessories in Kuwait, has opened its 35th retail outlet in the country. The latest addition to FCC’s retail network is located at Al-Bairaq Mall in the Al Egaila area, south of Kuwait City. Read full story
