Sandisk eyes retail channel for SSDs

Sandisk has begun shipping its G3 solid state drives (SSD) to retailers in Europe and North America. The vendor’s Middle East operation has confirmed that the product will also enter the region’s retail channel this month and will be available from distribution partner Redington. The flash memory-based Sandisk G3 SSD offers a viable alternative to a 7,200 RPM hard disk drive (HDD) for many users, according to the vendor. Read full story

BMI predicts bright future for UAE market

Business Monitor International (BMI) reckons that the UAE consumer electronics devices market will be worth US$3.6 billion by 2014, driven by demand for new devises such as LED and 3D TV sets, 3G mobile handsets, smartphones, feature-rich notebooks and Blu-Ray format DVD players. BMI reckons that UAE sales will hit US$2.7 billion this year. Read full story

Emax and Genetco focus on Canon

Middle East retailer Emax has teamed up with Canon distributor Genetco to launch a new retail concept in Oman. The two companies have worked together to create an exclusive Canon digital SLR zone in each Emax outlet. Retail channel confidence dips in January 2010

The Middle East IT and consumer electronics retail channel saw confidence dip in January 2010. Sandwiched between the 2009 festive buying period and the launch of shopping festival season, January 2010 always looked like it would be a tough month. The Middle East Retail Academy (MERA) Monthly Monitor Report (MMR) Confidence Index fell to 5.77 (scored out of 10) for working month January 2010. Read full story

Lenovo teams with Alghanim for Kuwait launch

Lenovo has teamed up with Kuwait partner Alghanim to launch its latest Idea PC range in the country. During the launch event, the vendor met with top resellers and executives from the Kuwaiti IT channel to discuss the current market conditions and Lenovo’s future in-country plans. The overall Kuwaiti IT market is worth US$761m per year according to research from Business Monitor International. Read full story
