Souq.com opens service centre in Dubai

Middle East e-tailer and online marketplace Souq.com has whipped the covers off its first customer experience centre, located on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai. The move to open a physical space highlights the complexities of new omnichannel supply models embracing both offline and online. Souq.com claims that the new facility will make life more convenient for customers as well as sellers across the UAE. Read full story

Jarir Bookstore opens new store in Medina

Saudi Arabian tech retail giant Jarir Bookstore recently opened a new showroom in Medina, taking its store network inside the Kingdom to 39. Jarir’s total store network now numbers 47, including its outlets outside of Saudi Arabia. The new Medina showroom on King Abdullah Road spans more than 4000 square metres. Jarir Bookstore invested more than US$16m in its latest outlet. More than 60% of the staff employed at the new store are Saudi Arabian. Read full story

APAC consumer channel hungry for new brands

The fourth annual DISTREE Asia-Pacific (APAC) consumer tech channel event takes place in Singapore from the 2-4th November. In the run-up to this year’s event, DISTREE APAC conducted a survey of distributors and retailers across the region during October. Mirakl marketplace selected by Elkjøp

Mirakl, a global marketplace solutions provider, will provide Elkjøp Nordic, part of Dixons Carphone and the largest consumer electronic retailer in the Nordics, with its B2B SaaS marketplace platform. The new deal will see Elkjøp, which has 400 stores in four countries and 10,000 employees, grow its online offering with a new marketplace that will keep customers excited about its brand through experimentation with new product lines and promotions. Elkjøp has sales of €2.7 billion (US$3.02 billion), €600m (US$671m) of which are through its existing online channels. Read full story

ASUS targets UAE gamers with latest kit

ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) has announced that it is bringing the latest NVIDIA GeForce GTX 10-series graphics cards to the UAE for the first time through its G752 notebook. Available to buy now, the G752 will also be showcased at Gitex Shopper this week priced from AED 11,499 (US$3131). The latest graphic cards designed specifically for laptops allow users to play games with a significantly improved experience similar to that of a desktop device, but at a far more accessible price. It will also be available in the UAE through world’s most powerful 18-inch gaming laptop, the GX800, by the end of this year. Read full story
