APAC consumer channel hungry for new brands

The fourth annual DISTREE Asia-Pacific (APAC) consumer tech channel event takes place in Singapore from the 2-4th November. In the run-up to this year’s event, DISTREE APAC conducted a survey of distributors and retailers across the region during October. The 2016 Asia-Pacific Consumer Tech Channel Survey, which included responses from distributors and retailers in 10 countries, revealed that 88% of respondents expected to increase their vendor portfolio in the next six months Read full story

Mirakl marketplace selected by Elkjøp

Mirakl, a global marketplace solutions provider, will provide Elkjøp Nordic, part of Dixons Carphone and the largest consumer electronic retailer in the Nordics, with its B2B SaaS marketplace platform. The new deal will see Elkjøp, which has 400 stores in four countries and 10,000 employees, grow its online offering with a new marketplace that will keep customers excited about its brand through experimentation with new product lines and promotions. Elkjøp has sales of €2.7 billion (US$3.02 billion), €600m (US$671m) of which are through its existing online channels. Read full story

ASUS targets UAE gamers with latest kit

ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) has announced that it is bringing the latest NVIDIA GeForce GTX 10-series graphics cards to the UAE for the first time through its G752 notebook. Available to buy now, the G752 will also be showcased at Gitex Shopper this week priced from AED 11,499 (US$3131). The latest graphic cards designed specifically for laptops allow users to play games with a significantly improved experience similar to that of a desktop device, but at a far more accessible price. It will also be available in the UAE through world’s most powerful 18-inch gaming laptop, the GX800, by the end of this year. Read full story

JB Hi-Fi to acquire The Good Guys in Australia

Australian retailer JB Hi-Fi has confirmed a deal to acquire retail outfit The Good Guys for a cash sum of AU$870m (US$650m). The Good Guys is a leading home appliances and consumer electronics retailer in Australia with a network of 101 stores. The Good Guys sales hit AU$2.09 billion (US$1.56 billion) for the year ending June 30th 2016, with pre-tax profits coming in at AU$74.2m (US$55.4m). The deal is expected to close in late 2016 or early 2017. Read full story

New Challenger subsidiary set-up in Malaysia

Singapore-based retailer Challenger Technologies has set up a new wholly-owned susbidiary in Malaysisa. The new subsidiary, which is called Hachi MY, has been set up by Challenger Technologies’ wholly-owned Challenge Ventures unit. Announing the incorporation of the new subsidiary, Challenger stated that its principal business would be trading, retail, distribution and online trading if IT and lifestyle products and services. Xtouch puts together aggressive UAE bundle

Mobile device brand Xtouch recently launched a special offer in the UAE retail channel, bundling its latest new generation A3 4G LTE smartphone, featuring touch fingerprint sensor technology, with the VFit smart band for just AED599 (US$163) in the UAE. The standalone price for the Xtouch A3 is AED399 (US$109) and the VFit smart band is AED499 (US$136). The bundle deal, exclusively available at at Sharaf DG stores in the UAE, represents a 33% discount on the combined standalone cost.
