Dixons Retail has appointed Jaan Ivar Semlitsh as managing director for its operations in Northern Europe. Semlitsh will start his new role at the European ICT and consumer electronics (CE) retailer on 3rd January 2013. Semlitsh is currently CEO of REMA Industrier, part of a large Scandinavian supermarket chain.

Medimax starts autumn promotion
German ICT and consumer electronics (CE) retailer Medimax has kicked off an autumn campaign. The Medimax campaign will reach out to German consumers with the promise of attractive product prices coupled with expert advice from the retailers. Medimax has more than 110 retail outlets in Germany. The promotion will be backed up by a range of marketing initiatives including radio adverts.

Jacky’s runs Nikon promotion at GITEX Shopper
UAE-based ICT and consumer electronics (CE) retailer Jacky’s Electronics is giving away a Nikon camera every 10 minutes at GITEX Shopper 2012. The retailer is also staging karaoke and Facebook competitions and playing host to radio road shows as it attempts to engage with consumers throughout the week-long event.

Middle East retail channel confidence hits record high
Confidence levels have hit a record high in the Middle ICT and consumer electronics (CE) channel, according to the latest Monthly Monitor Report (MMR), published by the Middle East Retail Academy (MERA). More than 50 retailers, distributors and vendors submitted feedback with overall business confidence levels for the three months ending November 2012 climbing to 7.11 (scored out of 10) – an all-time high since the report launched in June 2009. The impact of GITEX period promotions, the launch of Windows 8, new smartphone releases and an expected fourth quarter sales upswing were all cited as reasons for increased channel confidence.

Emax hopes for 40% GITEX Shopper sales spike
Middle East IT and consumer electronics (CE) retailer Emax is predicting a 40% year-on-year increase in sales from its participation in GITEX Shopper 2012, which runs from September 29th to October 6th at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC). Emax has increased its stand space at GITEX Shopper 2012 by 70% as it looks to capitalise on the expected increase in visitors to this year’s event.

Jacky’s plans e-raffle for GITEX Shopper
UAE-based ICT and consumer electronics (CE) retailer Jacky’s Electronics is planning an e-raffle during this year’s GITEX Shopper, which takes place from 29th September to 6th October in Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC). The tablet-based e-raffle will see Jacky’s do away with paper tickets, allowing consumers to register using an application on a tablet device when they purchase kit from Jacky’s at GITEX Shopper or at one of the retailer’s outlets.

Microsoft outlines strategy to Latin American channel

UAE retailer and distributor Jumbo Electronics has appointed Vishesh L. Bhatia as the company’s new CEO. Bhatia takes on the role after retiring from a senior leadership role at Dubai-based Al Futtaim Group. This will be Bhatia’s second stint at Jumbo after serving as the company’s COO from 2001 to 2002.
