Dick Smith reports full year figures

Retailer Dick Smith, which operates in Australia and New Zealand, posted sales for the year ending 28th June 2015 of AUD1.32 billion (US$920m) – up 7.5% year-on-year. After-tax profits before restructuring costs climbed 3.1% year-on-year to hit AUD43.4m (US$30.1m), representing a profit margin of 3.29%. Nick Abboud, Dick Smith managing director and CEO, said: “We are pleased to have delivered another solid underlying profit performance in this our second year as a listed company.” Read full story

Erajaya announces joint ventures in Singapore and Malaysia

Indonesia-based distributor and retailer Erajaya Group has announced joint ventures in both Singapore and Malaysia. Erajaya has formed a joint venture with Alphabright to set up Era International Network in Singapore. The company has also teamed up with Malaysian citizen Li Chau Ging to form Era International Network in Malaysia. The moves form part of Erajaya’s plan to expand its distribution and retail footprint in both countries. Read full story

Courts boosts profits in first quarter

South-East Asian IT and consumer electronics (CE) retailer Courts boosted after-tax profits 19% year-on-year to hit S$6.04m (US$4.27m) for its first quarter ending 30th June 2015. The results marked an improvement in margins as sales were up just 2.1% year-on-year at S$198.2m (US$134m). Courts plans to open its fourth store in Indonesia by the end of 2015. Read full story

Challenger profits rise in second quarter

Singapore-based retailer Challenger Technologies has announced second quarter 2015 sales of S$84.7m (US$60.3m), up 3% year-on-year. After tax profits for the quarter climbed 21% year-on-year to hit S$3.5m (US$2.5m). The increased profitability was due to the closure of Challenger’s loss-making Malaysian operation in the first half of fiscal year 2014. With these losses stripped out of the business, Challenger was able to record improved profit margins. Read full story

Ctroniq kids tablet launched in Bahrain

Tablet vendor Ctroniq, its Bahrain distribution partner AJM Kooheji, and retailer Sharaf DG, teamed up to launch a new device aimed at children. The Ctroniq tablet for kids was launched at Sharaf DG’s store in Bahrain City Centre mall. The latest product from Ctroniq is specifically designed for all the young internet enthusiasts and comes pre-loaded with games designed to engross and develop young minds. Read full story

Dick Smith to roll out ConnectedHome section in 100 stores

Retailer Dick Smith has set its sights on grabbing some consumer product sales related to smart homes and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions. During the next five months, Dick Smith will install a ConnectedHome section into 100 stores – 15 in New Zealand and 85 in Australia. The sections will stock small appliances with smart functionality. Dick Smith wants to grab 10% of the small appliance market in the region, which is estimated to be worth AUD1.7 billion (US$1.26 billion) per annum. Read full story

Huntkey ties up with Costco in Australia

China-based Huntkey has boosted its retail channel reach in Australia, announcing an agreement with Costco Warehouse. The deal will see Costco Warehouse stock Huntkey’s SAC804 power strip in its stores. Costco is one of the largest warehouse retailers in Australia with a reputation for carrying quality national and regional brands at prices consistently below traditional wholesale or retail outlets. An increased range of Severin kitchen appliances will be made available through UAE retail channels. Juma Al Majid Group, the exclusive distributor for German brand Severin in the UAE, will increase the assortment of products available in the market through its own showrooms and through major retailers and e-tailers. Huntkey targets Chile through PC Factory

Chinese brand Huntkey has boosted sales in Chile through a tie-up with in-country retailer PC Factory. Huntkey has worked with PC Factory to boost sales of its universal notebook adapters in the Chilean market. Huntkey claims that Chile’s population of 16 million people, coupled with the benefit of importing products duty free, has created an attractive national market for its products. Read full story

Croma integrates multichannel approach

Indian technology and consumer electronics retailer Croma has announced plans to integrate its multichannel sales model, combining its physical and online channels into a unified business platform. Croma had been operating its online business, www.cromaretail.com, as a separate business but will now fully integrate with its physical stores to allow new services for customers such as click and collect.
