Packed day one agenda at DISTREE Middle East
DISTREE Middle East 2013 gets underway today with a packed agenda for hundreds of vendor, distributor and retailer executives gathered in Abu Dhabi. In addition to pre-scheduled one-on-one meetings, delegates will also have the chance to attend a series of Retail Academy workshop sessions, hear a keynote speech from GfK, and get up to speed on the channel strategies of Intel, Dell, Norton and Linksys.

Kuwait-based mobile phone and accessories retailer Fonz is one of hundreds of retail chains participating at DISTREE Middle East this week. The retailer, which has 60 retail outlets across Kuwait, will use this year’s channel event to meet and evaluate potential new suppliers. Adel Hashem, operations director at Fonz, said: “We have a team of 580 employees fully trained to provide the best possible service to customers [in Kuwait].”

More than 2,000 one-on-one pre-scheduled meetings have already been booked between the 600-plus delegates attending DISTREE Middle East 2013 in Abu Dhabi this week. Thousands more will be arranged on site as ICT and consumer electronics (CE) vendors, distributors and retailers from across the region unite for the three-day channel event.

The final live voting nominations have been revealed for the ‘Middle East Retail Academy (MERA): 2013 Awards’, which take place at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr in Abu Dhabi on May 22nd in conjunction with DISTREE Middle East 2013 – the region’s leading annual ICT and consumer electronics (CE) retail channel event. The VIP Jury has confirmed the shortlist of nominated companies for special achievement awards. The nominees for this year’s distributor awards have also been announced.

Extra opens first store in Qunfuda City
Saudi Arabia-based ICT and consumer electronics (CE) retailer Extra has opened its 30th store in the Kingdom, launching its first outlet in Qunfuda City. The new store covers 1,200 square metres and is located on King Fahd Road. Extra reckons that the outlet will serve a population of approximately 250,000, giving consumer access to more than 12,000 SKUs.
