Lexmark trains resellers in Oman

Printing vendor Lexmark held a recent channel training session in Oman to bring in-country resellers up to speed on its plans. The seminar and workshop session covered the latest Lexmark product lines, upcoming launches, plus service and maintenance topics. Kelway to buy Equanet from Dixons

UK-based IT solutions and service provider Kelway has agreed to purchase the non-trade and public sector business of Equanet, the IT solutions brand of Dixons Retail. Kelway reckons that the deal will extend its midmarket reach and enhance its public sector capabilities. Dixons Retail will continue to operate its PC World Business offering, serving small businesses in stores across the UK. Read full story

TP-Link signs Richer Sounds as UK retail partner

Also-Actebis considers Saphin deal

European distribution giant Also-Actebis continues to mull over a possible deal to acquire a majority stake in Dutch channel conglomerate Saphin Group. Also-Actebis signed a letter of intent back in mid-December 2012 and started negotiations with a view to a possible deal. The Saphin Group has stakes in numerous Dutch IT companies and achieved annual sales of approximately US$1 billion. Read full story

Aptec pushes Netapp Expresspod

Middle East VAD Aptec, now part of global distribution giant Ingram Micro, has launched Netapp’s Expresspod SMB virtualisation solution in the region. Expresspod is Netapp and Cisco’s new prepackaged solution, which combines computing, networking, storage, and management products into a solution architected for streamlined deployment. HP responds to SEC on Iran and Syria

Vendor giant HP has published its response to the SEC over concerns that its kit was finding its way to Syria and Iran in breach of US economic sanctions and export controls. HP was honest enough to admit: “…it is always possible that products may be diverted to Iran or Syria after being sold to channel partners, such as distributors and resellers, without HP’s knowledge or consent.” While this is simply stating the obvious to anyone that has ever worked in the Middle East channel, it inevitably created some (more) negative press for HP given the current state of US relationships with Iran and Syria.
