TechAccess extends Unify agreement

Middle East VAD outfit TechAccess has extended its distribution agreement with Unify, a provider of unified communications and collaboration solutions. In addition to its existing partnership agreement for Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, TechAccess will now offer Unify’s complete portfolio to organisations across the wider GCC and Levant region. Dimension Data to push managed services in East Africa

IT infrastructure solutions provider Dimension Data will put more emphasis on promoting its managed security services (MSS) offerings in East Africa. The company believes that MSS solutions will appeal to larger enterprises in the region handling sensitive and confidential data. Dimension Data’s MSS services allow large enterprises to ensure regulatory compliance without having to invest heavily in building up internal security teams. Read full story

InnJoo eyes growing Middle East smartphone market

Research firm IDC expects mobile phone shipments in the Middle East in full year 2016 to exceed 123 million units, with smartphones accounting for 70% of the total. Markets such as the UAE, Turkey and Saudi Arabia continue to drive growth. Smartphone vendor Innjoo is determined to take full advantage of the business opportunities created by growing demand in the region, pursuing an online-focused route-to-market to differentiate itself from rivals. Fortinet recognises top Middle East partners

Fortinet, a specialist in high-performance cybersecurity solutions, recently concluded its first Middle East partner conference, which took place in Dubai. Fortinet’s Middle East partner conference awards recognised the outstanding achievements drawn from the company’s distributors and resellers across the region. Orange buys €75m stake in Africa Internet Group

Telecoms operator Orange has acquired a €75m (US$85.5m) equity stake in Africa Internet Group, joining AXA, Goldman Sachs and longstanding investors MTN Group, Millicom and Rocket Internet. Through this investment, which will be accompanied by a series of strategic partnerships between the subsidiaries of the two groups, Orange will help online marketplace Jumia and other websites run by Africa Internet Group to accelerate their growth and seize development opportunities in Africa. Also Group opens subsidiary in Slovenia

European distribution giant Also Group has established a subsidiary in Slovenia – the 14th European market the company now has presence in. The Ljubljana-based office will focus on digital services distribution, launching the Also cloud marketplace, a one-stop-shop solution for Also customers, in April 2016. Also is the first indirect partner in the Microsoft cloud solution provider (CSP) programme in Slovenia, opening up opportunities for Also resellers to package different solutions with Microsoft cloud services through the Also cloud marketplace. Context appoints Keith Henry as SVP

IT market research firm Context has appointed Keith Henry as its new senior vice president (SVP) for sales and marketing. In his new role Henry will head up Context’s sales and marketing activities and will join the company’s executive committee. Souq.com secures US$275m funding

Souq.com, the Middle East’s largest online retail and marketplace platform, recently completed a funding round of more than US$275m, the largest financing of an e-commerce business in the Middle East, according to the company. Souq.com claims that the significant investment will support the company’s future growth, strengthen e-commerce in the region and empower more businesses to grow online through its platform. B&O PLAY turns channel data management on with Zyme

Zyme, a market leader in the rapidly growing discipline of channel data management (CDM), has announced that B&O PLAY has signed an agreement to deploy Zyme’s cloud-based CDM solution. The first phase of the initial roll out will be completed by the close of March 2016 but the overall implementation, which will be global, will run until the end of May 2016. Zyme will host an extended workshop on CDM at this month’s DISTREE EMEA channel event, highlighting the agreement with B&O PLAY as a case study. Read full story
