BrightPoint strikes Fitbit deal

Mobility distributor BrightPoint has struck a logistics services agreement with Fitbit, a manufacturer of wireless fitness and health devices. Under the terms of the deal, BrightPoint’s regional affiliates will provide a variety of logistic services in both Europe and North America, including receiving, warehousing, inventory and order management, kitting, transportation management, order fulfilment and reverse logistics for the Fitbit ultra wireless tracker and Aria Wi-Fi smart scale. Brightstar divests European stake

Mobility distributor Brightstar has agreed to divest its 50% stake in its European joint venture to Tech Data for US$165.6m cash. Brightstar has announced that, despite the divestment, it plans to continue operating in Europe through a wholly-owned subsidiary. Read full story

MTI adds Amacrox brand in Ukraine

Ukrainian distributor MTI has extended its cooperation with FSP adding the vendor’s Amacrox universal power units to its product portfolio. MTI will also supply external batteries and car chargers sold under the Amacrox brand. The Amacrox brand was established eight years ago by FSP. The company has now clearly divided its brand names with FSP focused on components and Amacrox centred on power solutions for mobile devices. Read full story

Empa picks up Fujitsu award

Dubai-based distributor Empa has picked up a partner award from Fujitsu Technology Solutions during the vendor’s recent channel event in the Middle East. During the event, called ‘Fujitsu’s IT Future’, Empa picked up an award for growth in 2011 in recognition of its channel development efforts and service delivery strengths. Read full story

United Matbouli revamps Samsung service centre

United Matbouli Group, a distributor for Samsung Electronics in Saudi Arabia, has reopened its Jeddah service centre for customers using Samsung products. The 1,500 square metre service centre is located in the Al Ruwais district of Jeddah. United Matbouli has also constructed a 1,000 square metre spare parts warehouse in the city’s Al Khumrah district. Read full story

Logicom adds APC rights in UAE

Logicom has extended its Middle East distribution agreement with APC by Schneider Electric to cover the UAE market. Distributor Logicom has held APC rights in Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Yemen for the last three years and has delivered continuous growth in these markets. Shastech signs Samsung service deal in Saudi Arabia

Samsung has struck a deal with Shastech to use its Saudi Arabian partner’s Icare outlets as authorised maintenance centres for the vendor’s mobile phone and tablet products in the Kingdom. The agreement will see Shastech provide technical support and services for Samsung devices. Read full story

Elko signs TP-Link distribution deal

Latvia-based emerging markets distributor Elko Group has added networking vendor TP-Link to its product portfolio. The two companies have struck a deal that will see Elko distribute TP-Link networking kit across Russia, Ukraine and the Baltic States. TP-Link’s product range includes routers, switches, IP cameras, powerline adapters, print servers, media converters and network adapters. Read full story

Esquire snaps up ISP stake

South Africa-based distributor Esquire Technologies has picked up a 50% stake in ISP outfit SA Gateway for an undisclosed sum. SA Gateway management holds the remaining 50% in the company. Esquire claims that the deal is in line with its ongoing internet strategy. The distributor plans to put itself in a position where it can offer very competitive rates for internet-based communications to its 12,000-strong reseller base. Read full story
