Specialist value-added distributor Bell Micro has entered a UK partnership with virtualisation solution outfit Parallels. The deal will see Bell add Parallels Virtuozzo Containers to its portfolio and offer the solution to its reseller community.

Computerlinks reveals 2007 sales
IT security and internet technologies value-added distributor Computerlinks boosted its sales 18.3% to €469.1m in 2007. Fourth quarter sales played a significant role in the company’s annual sales figure, contributing €156.1m to the total – a 20% increase on the 2006 fourth quarter revenues and a third of all sales in 2007.

Avnet makes Murphy IBM business boss
Avnet Technology Solutions has appointed Miriam Murphy as VP for the group’s IBM products business group in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Murphy will assume responsibility for the ‘strategic direction and growth of Avnet’s IBM business in EMEA and for managing the relationship with IBM in the region,’ according to the distribution giant.

Tech Data confirms Scribona deal
Global distribution giant Tech Data has struck a deal to acquire assets from Nordic IT distribution outfit Scribona, which has operations in Sweden, Finland and Norway. Tech Data reckons the deal means it can better serve customers and vendor partners in the Nordic region and also better leverage investments in European IT and logistics infrastructure.

Big Blue targets Russia with OpenReferent PC project
IBM has teamed up with Red Hat software distributor VDEL and Polish distributor LX Polska to develop Microsoft-free PCs loaded with open source software for the Russian market. The surprise move from Big Blue is reported to be in response to growing demand from large accounts in the Russian market.

Ingram Micro EMEA bags RIM software rights
Ingram Micro EMEA has signed a new distribution agreement with wireless solutions provider Research In Motion (RIM). The new deal will see Ingram distribute RIM’s BlackBerry Enterprise Server software and BlackBerry Professional Software to resellers in the UK and Netherlands and also provide technical support services.
