Mindware pushes green message with Wyse
Middle East distributor Mindware has teamed up with thin computing vendor Wyse to launch the Earthsmart computing initiative in the Middle East. The campaign aims to build awareness on energy consumption and electronic waste issues. Mindware and Wyse hope that the campaign will boost demand for thin computing as companies push towards environmentally friendly business practices.

Hardware vendor BenQ’s sales in Egypt climbed 55% year-on-year for the first half of 2008. The vendor also claimed that sales of its Joybook notebooks quadrupled in Egypt, but did not disclose the actual volume of units shifted. BenQ has been working hand-in-hand with in-country partner IBS to boost its presence in the Egyptian market.

Bell gives second quarter guidance
Value-added distributor Bell Microproducts has announced global preliminary sales for the quarter ending June 2008 of between US$960m and US$970m – up some 3% from a year earlier. Sales climbed in Europe and Latin America and in Bell’s North American enterprise group. Currency shifts resulted in a positive impact of US$31m on Bell’s preliminary figures.

Middle East distribution giant Aptec has been on the hunt for channel partners to join the VMware advantage partner programme. The company has hosted a series of seminars across the region covering the UAE, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. The Kuwait seminar also included a briefing on McAfee technology while both NetApp and Symantec took part in the event that took place in Riyadh.
