HP bags EDS for US$13.9 billion

HP has reshaped the global IT services landscape with its blockbuster US$13.9 billion agreement to buy EDS. The deal, which is expected to close in the second half of calendar 2008, is expected to more than double HP’s service revenues, which hit US$16.6 billion in full year 2007. Combined, the service businesses of HP and EDS pulled in sales of US$38 billion in 2007, employed some 210,000 employees and worked in more than 80 countries. Read full story

IRIS eyes retail opportunity

Optical character recognition specialist IRIS Group will attend this year’s Digital Consumer Channel (DCC) event in Fujairah, UAE, to show retailers from across the Middle East its complete range of mobile scanning devices. InTouch lands LAN Services as reseller

InTouch POS has strengthened its channel to market with the appointment of LAN Services as a reseller of its Microsoft retail management system compatible shopping cart called RMScart. InTouch POS operates as a European EPOS provider. LAN Services will sell Microsoft retail management system (RMS), RMScart and RMS Ad-On services across Europe. Read full story

Noetica names new Spanish reseller

Customer interaction management (CIM) software provider Noetica has signed Voiceware Communicaciones as a reseller in Spain. Voiceware, which bills itself as a contact centre software integrator, will sell, implement and support the Noetica Synthesys software framework to its new and existing clients in outsourced, utility, healthcare, telecommunications and retail markets. FileWave partners with Pro Technology

Software management tools provide FileWave has appointed Pro Technology as its exclusive distribution partner in the Middle East. Under the terms of the agreement, Pro technology will resell the vendor’s Asset Trustee and FileWave software. FileWave offers tools for both Windows and Mac OS systems and will look to Pro Technology to open up and develop new business opportunities in the region. Read full story

The Rock(y) horror show

UK-based performance gaming notebook vendor Rock has gone under. The company, which had annual sales of approximately US$10m, called in the administrators after facing cashflow difficulties. The company’s demise is linked to the actions of ex-employee, Paul Bicknell, currently serving a three-year prison sentence after admitting nine charges of theft from Rock totalling US$440,000. Bicknell also admitted burgling Rock premises one month after resigning from the company. Read full story

VMware enhances channel programmes

Virtualisation solutions vendor VMware has unveiled a number of enhancements to its channel programme. The changes to the channel scheme include the expansion of the VMware authorised consultant programme, a new alliance affiliate initiative that provides partners with the opportunity to accelerate profitability through joint solution selling, and new programmes designed to capitalise on the market opportunity for VMware virtualisation. Sana Security enters UK retail channel

Security software vendor Sana has struck a UK retail agreement with retail giant DSGi. The deal means that Sana Security’s PRSC online identity protection software is now available in all 711 PC World and Currys retail outlets. The software offers consumers a tool to defend themselves against hackers and criminals seeking to steal identity, banking and other personal information while they surf the internet. iCore signs IBM reseller agreement

UK-focused IT management consultancy iCore has signed a reseller agreement with DNS Arrow for IBM Maximo asset management solutions and IBM’s service desk product, Tivoli service request manager. This is the first software application that iCore will resell in its ten-year history and builds on the existing reseller base for IBM’s asset and service management solutions. Read full story
