Redington India strikes Kindle deal
Distributor Redington India has added Amazon Kindle devices to its in-country product portfolio. The deal agreed with Amazon Seller Services – an Amazon subsidiary – gives Redington an entry point into the e-reader product category and also highlights Amazon’s ambitions in the fast-growing Indian consumer market.

Avnet picks up HGST rights in India
Distributor Avnet has added HGST storage products to its portfolio in India. HGST, now part of storage giant WD, claims that the deal will extend its reach across India and wider South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) region. Avnet will distribute HGST’s enterprise and mobile drives, and Touro external storage solutions in India and the SAARC region.

Egyptian market value exceeds US$4 billion
Research house GfK’s latest analysis of the ICT, telecoms and consumer electronics market in Egypt indicates that the total market value grew 7% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2012 to hit US$1.03 billion. This took the annual market value for calendar 2012 to US$4.2 billion dollars in Egypt – a 7.1% increase over 2011.

Computacenter plans capital return in 2013
London-quoted reseller and IT services provider Computacenter plans to return £75m (US$111m) to shareholders in 2013, in addition to the normal dividend. Computacenter announced sales up 2.2% in calendar 2012 at £2.91 billion (US$4.32 billion). After tax profits fell 19% year-on-year to £49.1m (US$73m). Computacenter reckoned that it had put in a strong performance in the UK and had seen early signs of recovery in Germany.

UAE-based retailer and distributor Eros Group has opened a new store in Dubai Mall. The new outlet takes Eros to a total of 32 stores in the UAE. The new store is based in the electronics section of Dubai Mall and offers consumers access to a wide range of ICT and consumer electronics (CE) products across a number of product categories. Eros acts as a distributor for a number of brands including Samsung, Hitachi, Candy, TCL and BenQ.

Computer Gross picks up Oki rights
Italian distributor Computer Gross has struck a deal with printing solutions vendor Oki. Under the terms of the agreement, Computer Gross will push Oki products through its J.Open business unit to its channel customer base. The deal cements Oki’s commitment to channel sales in Italy and expands the portfolio of products offered by Computer Gross.
