Western European distributor PC revenues continue to rise
Western Europe’s largest distributors saw revenues from PC sales continue to rise in early first quarter 2019 after a significant increase last year, according to data published by CONTEXT, the IT market intelligence company. PC revenues were up by 6% year-on-year during the first two months of the year – to €2 billion (US$2.28 billion) – on the back of a 5% growth last year.

Russian smart home market to hit US$2.3 billion by 2023
Market research from Statista has highlighted the huge growth opportunities in the Russian smart home segment. Sales in the smart home market are forecast to hit US$609m in 2019, with an annual growth rate of 40.4% driving the overall market value to US$2.37 billion per annum by 2023. Household penetration of smart home solutions stands at just 2.8% in 2019, but is projected to climb to 10.7% by 2023.

NASDAQ-quoted gaming headset and audio accessories brand Turtle Beach has announced an agreement to buy Roccat – a German PC peripherals brand offering gaming mice, keyboards and other accessories. Turtle Beach will pay US$14.8m cash for Roccat, plus up to US$3.4m in earnout payments. Roccat is expected to boost Turtle Beach’s sales by more than US$30m in 2020.

M.Video-Eldorado targets 1100 stores by 2022
Russia-based retail colossus M.Video-Eldorado has reported pro-forma group sales for calendar 2018 of US$6.44 billion – up 17.7% year-on-year. The company’s online sales grew 31% in 2018 to hit US$1.18 billion. M.Video-Eldorado is Russia’s largest consumer electronics (CE) retailer by revenues, according to the company. M.Video-Eldorado ended 2018 with 941 stores in its network with plans to operate a total of 1,100 stores by the end of 2022.

Russian tech market expands 16.6% in 2018
Research house GfK’s most recent TEMAX analysis of the ICT, telecoms and consumer electronics market in Russia indicates that the total market value hit US$8.2 billion in the fourth quarter of 2018 – up 16.3% year-on-year. The positive market development continued as consumers found attractive offers in retail and accelerated purchase decisions ahead of VAT changes planned for 2019. Total sales in Russia for calendar 2018 hit US$25.8 billion – up 16.6% year-on-year
