Avnet makes Murphy IBM business boss

Avnet Technology Solutions has appointed Miriam Murphy as VP for the group’s IBM products business group in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Murphy will assume responsibility for the ‘strategic direction and growth of Avnet’s IBM business in EMEA and for managing the relationship with IBM in the region,’ according to the distribution giant. Tech Data confirms Scribona deal

Global distribution giant Tech Data has struck a deal to acquire assets from Nordic IT distribution outfit Scribona, which has operations in Sweden, Finland and Norway. Tech Data reckons the deal means it can better serve customers and vendor partners in the Nordic region and also better leverage investments in European IT and logistics infrastructure. Streamline adds SiCortex to portfolio

UK-based high performance computing (HPC) systems and software reseller Streamline has added SiCortex to its solutions portfolio. SiCortex offers compact, low power Linux clusters. Under the terms of the reseller agreement, Streamline will sell SiCortex’s family of ultra compact, high performance Linux systems in the UK. Read full story

Networking giant Cisco has unveiled a new partner talent portal for the emerging markets of Africa and the Middle East. The new portal links channel partners in the region with local Cisco Networking Academy graduates. Cisco channel partners can browse through the CV and profile of the graduates on the new portal. Big Blue targets Russia with OpenReferent PC project

IBM has teamed up with Red Hat software distributor VDEL and Polish distributor LX Polska to develop Microsoft-free PCs loaded with open source software for the Russian market. Jarir Bookstores reveals 2007 sales spike

Saudi Arabian retail powerhouse Jarir Bookstores has revealed that its sales climbed 15.7% year-on-year in 2007 to a massive US$464.7m. The company, which sell a wide range of products including IT kit, has 23 outlets in Saudi Arabia, three in other GCC countries and also has investment property located in Egypt. Read full story

Software AG signs Relativity reseller deal

Infrastructure software vendor Software AG has struck a global alliance and reseller agreement with Relativity Technologies. Under the terms of the deal, announced during CeBIT 2008, Software AG will offer Relativity’s Modernisation Workbench solution for application modernisation. The Modernisation Workbench is currently used by more than 400 organisations, including seven of the ten largest financial service providers. Read full story

NASDAQ-quoted sales performance management (SPM) software vendor Callidus has beefed up its sales and consulting team focused on Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Callidus’ total headcount in EMEA has now hit 50 and the vendor has opened up a new regional headquarters in London to serve its growing customer base. Read full story
