Astaro unveils reseller discounts in UK

Security appliance vendor Astaro has kick started a channel promotion for its latest web gateway product line, offering UK resellers a whopping 85% discount on the retail price when they purchase the kit from authorised distributors before June 30th 2008. Icon7 targets Eastern Europe with HRP Group

Peripherals and device vendor Icon7 has expanded its presence in the Eastern European market, inking a distribution agreement with Hungary’s HRP Group. Under the terms of the deal, HRP will introduce Icon7 products into the Hungarian market and develop channels to market for the kit. Read full story

Wick Hill wins brace of awards

Security-focused VAD Wick Hill has picked up a couple of awards from its vendor partners. WatchGuard named Wick Hill as its 2008 value added distributor of the year. Wick Hill distributes WatchGuard solutions in the UK and Germany. Wick Hill made it a double whammy of awards after being named EMEA distributor of the year by IP service optimisation solutions vendor Allot Communications. Read full story

Elko secures Baltic MSI rights

Eastern Europe and Baltic distribution outfit Elko has signed a new deal with MSI. Under the terms of the agreement, Elko will become an official MSI distributor in the Baltic market. While MSI components are currently available in the Baltic channel, Elko’s deal with the vendor means that additional product lines such as MSI laptops will now arrive in the regional market. Sharrocks grabs EMEA consumer role

3Com names new Middle East boss

Networking vendor 3Com has named Mahmoud El-Ali as its new general manager for the Middle East. El-Ali boasts more than two decades of IT industry experience on his CV and will be based in Dubai for his new role. El-Ali willl assume responsibility for managing the 3Com team, defining strategy and driving sales across the Middle East. Read full story

Middle East components distributor Golden Systems has picked up a partner award from Gigabyte in recognition of its efforts to promote and sell the vendor’s products in the region. Brightstar launches global accessories unit

Wireless device distribution giant Brightstar has whipped the covers off its new global accessories company called Brightstar Accessories. The new unit, which will be headquartered in Miami, will focus on the procurement, marketing, sales and distribution of innovative mobile device accessories to operator, retail and dealer customers worldwide. Brightstar has named former Jabra executive Morten Steen-Jorgensen as president and CEO of the new company. Read full story

Red Hat eyes emerging markets

Linux vendor Red Hat is beefing up its presence in some of EMEA’s emerging markets, opening an office in South Africa and outlining plans to build up its presence in Dubai. Louis Seyfert, formerly at storage giant EMC, has been selected to head up the new office in South Africa, which will handle the whole of Southern Africa. The planned Dubai office will look after Red Hat’s activities in North Africa. Read full story
