FileWave partners with Pro Technology

Software management tools provide FileWave has appointed Pro Technology as its exclusive distribution partner in the Middle East. Under the terms of the agreement, Pro technology will resell the vendor’s Asset Trustee and FileWave software. FileWave offers tools for both Windows and Mac OS systems and will look to Pro Technology to open up and develop new business opportunities in the region. Read full story

The Rock(y) horror show

UK-based performance gaming notebook vendor Rock has gone under. The company, which had annual sales of approximately US$10m, called in the administrators after facing cashflow difficulties. The company’s demise is linked to the actions of ex-employee, Paul Bicknell, currently serving a three-year prison sentence after admitting nine charges of theft from Rock totalling US$440,000. Bicknell also admitted burgling Rock premises one month after resigning from the company. Read full story

VMware enhances channel programmes

Virtualisation solutions vendor VMware has unveiled a number of enhancements to its channel programme. The changes to the channel scheme include the expansion of the VMware authorised consultant programme, a new alliance affiliate initiative that provides partners with the opportunity to accelerate profitability through joint solution selling, and new programmes designed to capitalise on the market opportunity for VMware virtualisation. Best Buy makes European move

US retail giant Best Buy has crossed the pond for a crack at the European market. The IT and consumer electronics retailing giant has struck a deal with independent mobile phone retailer Carphone Warehouse. Under the terms of the deal, Best Buy is acquiring a 50% stake in Carphone Warehouse’s European and US retail operations for US$2.1 billion cash. The new venture plans to introduce Best Buy stores across Europe. Read full story

Asbis sales soar in first quarter

Emerging markets distribution powerhouse Asbis has revealed first quarter 2008 sales up 38.9% year-on-year at US$360m. Asbis’ after-tax profits almost tripled to US$5.53m, a profit margin of 1.5%. Sales of CPUs climbed 34.7% year-on-year, contributing US$95.67m of Asbis’ total first quarter revenues. Microsoft sales more than tripled year-on-year boosting first quarter software sales to US$54.84m. Read full story

Sana Security enters UK retail channel

Security software vendor Sana has struck a UK retail agreement with retail giant DSGi. The deal means that Sana Security’s PRSC online identity protection software is now available in all 711 PC World and Currys retail outlets. The software offers consumers a tool to defend themselves against hackers and criminals seeking to steal identity, banking and other personal information while they surf the internet. iCore signs IBM reseller agreement

UK-focused IT management consultancy iCore has signed a reseller agreement with DNS Arrow for IBM Maximo asset management solutions and IBM’s service desk product, Tivoli service request manager. This is the first software application that iCore will resell in its ten-year history and builds on the existing reseller base for IBM’s asset and service management solutions. Read full story

Unified threat management (UTM) appliance vendor Cyberoam has strengthened its UK channel with the appointment of e92plus as a distribution partner. Cyberoam reckons that e92plus’ strong partner network and experience of the UK security market will enhance both the availability and the reach of Cyberoam UTM appliances in the UK market. Tandberg Data adds Micro-P in UK

Back-up and archiving solutions provider Tandberg Data has signed a UK distribution agreement with Micro-Peripherals (Micro-P). Tandberg Data reckons that its new distribution agreement will allow it to increase its UK market penetration and provide focused storage expertise to the channel. Tandberg Data will continue to work with its two current UK distributors, Northamber and CMS Peripherals. Read full story

Ingram Micro and Minicom seal German deal

Digital signage distribution systems outfit Minicom has inked a strategic alliance with distribution giant Ingram Micro for the German market. The move forms part of Ingram’s plan to position itself as a leader in the booming digital signage market by providing end-to-end solutions from a number of vendors including Minicom, Broadsign and Philips.
