Bell Micro bags Big Blue accolade

Value-added distributor Bell Micro has been named as IBM’s leading solution delivery integrator (SDI) worldwide, achieving the highest level of utilisation for IBM’s System p family of servers for AIX, UNIX and Linux operating system environments. Bell Micro achieved 97% utilisation on the SDI programme – the highest percentage of 14 SDI partners spanning Europe, Asia and the Americas. Read full story

Positronica revels in Russian retail bonanza

Positronica, the Russian retail franchising operation launched by IT distribution heavyweight Merlion, posted sales of US$197m in 2007 according to a local report. Positronica has a retail network of more than 160 shops spanning 140 Russian towns and cities offering a combined floor space of more than 25,000 square metres. Read full story

eSolutions Force, which is part of the MDS Group, has struck a Middle East partnership with CRM player Salesforce.com. eSolutions reckons that it will become one of the first companies in the region capable of delivering end-to-end solutions in this sector. eSolutions also claims that the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) market in the Middle East will be worth US$112m in full year 2008. Fujitsu Siemens adds Distributech in UAE

Hardware vendor Fujitsu Siemens has beefed up its UAE channel reach with the appointment of Distributech as an SMB-focused distribution partner. Tinglobal picks up Powercore

Tinglobal, the parent company behind international refurbished high-end IT kit dealer Tindirect, has hit the acquisition trail, snapping up Powercore International and French operation Powercore SAS for an undisclosed sum. Tindirect works in the global business-to-business market for refurbished and reconfigured midrange computer equipment, including servers, storage, parts and associated services and networking infrastructure. OpenSpan rouses Raby for EMEA mission

Service-oriented architecture platform player OpenSpan has appointed Steve Raby as VP sales in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). OpenSpan generated 40% of its 2007 sales from outside North America and the company is keen to realise the significant growth opportunities that exist in overseas markets.
