IC Intracom has whipped the covers off new channel websites for its two product brands. Manhattan focuses on PC components, peripherals, cables and accessories while Intellinet specialises in active and passive networking equipment. The new websites, targeted at distributors and resellers, feature smart search functionality and detailed product information.

Computerlinks signs SanDisk enterprise deal
Security and internet solutions distributor Computerlinks has struck a distribution deal to sell SanDisk’s enterprise division security solutions. The deal includes the SanDisk Cruzer enterprise range of centrally managed encrypted USB flash drives. Computerlinks reckons that the deal complements its existing portfolio of end point security products, which includes RSA, Lumension, Citrix and Check Point.

Swedish design company Krusell will use the forthcoming DISTREE XXL 2009 event as a springboard for further international expansion of its distribution channel. Krusell specialises in the design, manufacturing and marketing of cases for mobile phones, laptops, digital cameras and MP3 players. Ulf Sandberg, CEO at Krusell, claims that the company’s product portfolio offers solid margin potential for both distributors and retailers.

Arrow Enterprise Computing Solutions (ECS) has announced that its DNS Arrow unit has been selected as Citrix’s EMEA distributor of the year. DNS Arrow, which has distributed Citrix solutions since 1994, was selected in recognition of its knowledge, experience and strategy in the virtualisation space.

Cautious retailers reject ‘free laptop’ customers
A broadband comparison website has revealed that UK mobile providers and retailers are together turning away half of all the applications they receive from customers for a mobile broadband contract, which includes a free laptop as part of the package. Despite the tough economic backdrop, the mobile providers and retailers are rejecting 50% of all applicants after running stringent credit checks.

Metra’s BEI bags Intel assembly deal in Egypt
Components behemoth Intel has struck a motherboard assembly deal with Boraq for Electronics and Industries (BEI) – a member of the Metra Computer Group. Under the terms of the deal, BEI will assemble Intel motherboards in Egypt for shipment across Africa. The agreement was formally signed between Egypt’s Information Technology Industry Development Authority (ITIDA), BEI and Intel.

Global distribution giant Tech Data recorded a US$23.5m foreign currency exchange loss in the quarter ending October 2008, with three quarters of the amount lost associated with the European region. Overall, Tech Data reported global sales of US$6.1 billion – up 3.8% year-on-year – with after-tax profits down 55% at US$18.4m.

Security giant Symantec has signed a strategic partnership with Condyn, an independent information security solutions distribution outfit. Under the terms of the agreement Condyn will develop a reseller relationship with Symantec, delivering security solutions to customers in South Africa and across the wider African market.
