Vietnam consumer tech growth continues

Research house GfK’s latest analysis of the ICT, telecoms and consumer electronics market in Vietnam indicates that the total market value grew 13.2% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2017 to hit US$2.12 billion. The strong growth was driven by sales increases in six of the seven segments that GfK tracks. Telecoms sales were up 18.3% year-on-year at US$1.07 billion. Read full story

Ingram Micro signed as Kaspersky Middle East training partner

Ingram Micro Training MEA, a provider of instructor-led technical training, has partnered with Kaspersky Lab as training provider for the Middle East Region. With this partnership, Ingram Micro is now authorised to provide certified training for end point solutions of Kaspersky Lab in the GCC. Ingram Micro will provide training services to all Kaspersky Lab customers and partners, aiming to further strengthen the vendor’s training offerings for the channel community. Read full story

Exertis adds Warmup smart thermostat rights

Distributor Exertis has added Warmup’s range of smart thermostats to its UK portfolio. The thermostats can be placed anywhere in the home, communicating with a wireless receiver unit which is connected to the central heating system’s boiler, working remotely with a smartphone to provide consumers with an optimised heating solution. Extra opens new Riyadh store

Saudi Arabia-based consumer tech retailer Extra, part of United Electronics Company, has opened its ninth store in Riyadh, extending its GCC retailer network to 43 stores in total. CEO Mohammed Galal said: “Our company is working according to a clear strategy for expansion, to be closer to our customers. Lifestyle Tech, Smart Home and Gaming identified as top growth categories by APAC consumer tech channel

DISTREE Asia Pacific (APAC) has released additional findings from its 2017 APAC Consumer Tech Channel Survey. Lifestyle Tech, Smart Home and Gaming were identified as the top three categories with the most growth potential in APAC, according to this year’s survey. Smart home solutions vendor Ring has appointed Arab Business Machines (ABM) as a distributor for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. ABM will promote and distribute Ring’s home security products and solutions and offer value-added services through its extensive channel partner network. Gaming monitor sales rocket

The fast-growing billion-dollar global e-sports economy drove worldwide gaming monitor sales up 175% year-on-year for the second quarter of 2017, according to the latest figures from CONTEXT, the global IT market analysis company. The rapid growth of gaming monitors was not quite enough to offset an overall 3% year-on-year decline in worldwide monitor shipments, driven by lower sales in China. Read full story
