Safmar Group reshapes Russian consumer tech retail

The Russian retail channel has undergone significant consolidation in recent months. Safmar Group announced the completion of its acquisition of 100% of the investment company previously owned by Alexander Tynkovan and his partners, which, in turn, owned 57.7% of M.video, at the end of April. Safmar Retail will now become the management company for retail chains M.video and Eldorado, as well as a new online marketplace project called goods.ru. Read full story

SonicWall recruits Berg for European channel role

Security solutions vendor SonicWall has recruited Michael Berg as senior director of channel sales with a focus on Europe. As the latest addition to SonicWall’s worldwide sales and channel team, Berg will attempt to enhance the company’s strong relationships with the European channel and enable SonicWall to deepen its relationships with distributors. Russian market exceeds US$5.64 billion in first quarter

Research house GfK’s most recent TEMAX analysis of the ICT, telecoms and consumer electronics market in Russia indicates that the total market value hit US$5.64 billion in the first quarter of 2017. Sales in the telecoms segment climbed 9.7% year-on-year in local currency terms to hit US$1.7 billion. Read full story

Cloud services redefine distributor role in Europe

InnJoo scores with Espanyol sponsorship

Fast-growing smartphone brand InnJoo has agreed to sponsor Spanish football club RCD Espanyol de Barcelona. InnJoo’s logo is displayed on the back of the first team’s shirt. Dubai-based InnJoo was established in 2014 and since then has seen its products purchased by millions of consumers across 30 countries including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Nigeria, Spain, Portugal and Italy among others. Marvel signs HMD Global deal for Nokia devices

Russian distributor Marvel has struck a distribution deal with HMD Global, the Finland-based company supplying smartphones under the Nokia brand name. Aleksey Zenkov, general manager of HMD Global in Russia, said: “We are very pleased to cooperate with a large distributor such as Marvel in Russia.” Read full story

Positronica maintains Russian growth rates

Russian consumer tech and electronics retail franchise Positronica ended the first quarter of 2017 with 169 trading points. The Positronica chain, which has been developed by Russian distribution giant Merlion, added 16 new stores to its network in 2016, plus 26 additional points of presence for processing and picking up internet orders. Positronica’s sales in 2016 hit RUB10 billion (US$175m). Read full story
