Packet Design has appointed FVC as a value-added distributor (VAD) for the Middle East and North Africa region. Dell appoints volume distributor in South Africa

Hardware giant Dell has named Drive Control (DCC) as its first volume distributor in South Africa. Both Dell and DCC are confident that the deal will allow the vendor to grab greater market share in South Africa. Despite the volume distribution agreement with DCC, Dell will continue to work with Tecchnogistics as an in-country logistics partner. Read full story

Ingram Micro plans EMEA restructuring

Global distribution behemoth Ingram Micro is planning to restructure its EMEA operations, with a focus on the regional headquarters. The announcement came as Ingram reported first quarter 2008 worldwide sales of US$8.58 billion – a 4% year-on-year rise. After-tax profits hit US$64.1m – a margin of just 0.75%. Read full story

i2 targets Sub-Sahara region

Mobile phone distribution and retail giant i2 had officially opened a new office in Johannesburg, South Africa, as the company sets its sights on rapid expansion in the Sub-Saharan region. The new regional office will oversee i2 activities in Ghana, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Angola, Reunion and Senegal. i2 plans to aggressively ramp up the number of retail outlets it has in the Sub-Saharan region. Components giant AMD has invited channel partner employees to become a ’secret agent whose task is to thwart the evil Zed’s plans for world domination’. No it’s not the latest development in AMD’s ongoing market share battle with fierce rival Intel. AirMagnet attracted to Westcon

Channel powerhouse Westcon Group has struck a distribution agreement covering Europe and the Middle East with AirMagnet, a global provider of intrusion detection and prevention systems for wireless networks. BenQ has appointed BDL as a premium distribution partner for its Joybook notebook series in the UAE. Joybook notebooks have had a tough time cracking the competitive UAE notebook market in recent years, but with BDL on board, BenQ reckons it can achieve double-digit growth in 2008 and claim a top five vendor spot in the UAE by the year-end.
