Netgear eyes Egyptian potential

Networking vendor Netgear has set its sights on the potential of the booming Egyptian market. The company recently held an in-country seminar alongside Egyptian channel partner Hiteknofal aimed at systems integrators, distributors and value-added resellers. Netgear, citing recent studies, claims that the Egyptian IT sector is set to soar in value from US$889m in 2006 to a massive US$1.3billion by 2011. Read full story

i2 breaks US$2bn sales barrier

Mobile phone distribution giant i2 has revealed that its gross sales hit US$2bn in 2007. i2, which has distribution and retail operations across the Middle East and Africa, doubled the number of Nokia handsets it sold year-on-year to 12.3 million in 2007 as gross sales rocketed 43%. Epson educates Saudi sales partners

Epson gathered together its Saudi Arabian partners this week for some intensive training on selling the vendor’s portfolio of business-focused products. C2C appoints EMEA sales boss

E-mail data management solutions player C2C has appointed Andrew Brown as sales manager for the EMEA region with immediate effect. Brown previously held the position of senior account manager for the UK. Brown, will now attempt to repeat his UK success on a wider scale and drive C2C’s growth throughout the EMEA region and expand the companies channels to market. Read full story

Positronica revels in Russian retail bonanza

Positronica, the Russian retail franchising operation launched by IT distribution heavyweight Merlion, posted sales of US$197m in 2007 according to a local report. Positronica has a retail network of more than 160 shops spanning 140 Russian towns and cities offering a combined floor space of more than 25,000 square metres. Read full story

EDS bags Vistorm

Global IT services giant EDS has acquired UK-based managed security services provider Vistorm. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. EDS claims that the deal creates one of the largest information assurance and managed security services firms in Europe. Read full story

Lenovo raids HP for new Middle East boss

PC giant Lenovo has named Khaled Kamel as its new general manager for the Middle East, Egypt and Pakistan region. Kamel joins Lenovo from close rival HP where he held the position of country manager with a strong focus on Saudi Arabia. Kamel’s CV also includes a stint as general manager of Heliopolis Computers. HP names SPS as Saudi wide receiver

HP has confirmed the appointment of Samir Photpgraphic Supplies (SPS) as its exclusive partner in Saudi Arabia for industrial printing solutions. SPS will offer super-wide format printing throughout the Kingdom and will manage all in-country sales of HP’s Scitex industrial solutions. Read full story

Merlion grabs Gingle rights

Russian distribution giant Merlion has struck an exclusive distribution deal with Gingle Technology to sell the vendor’s portfolio of RAM products. The products are now available to Merlion’s extensive dealer network in Russia. Under the terms of the deal, Merlion has been granted exclusive distribution rights across the entire Russian Federation and CIS countries. Read full story

Rectron signs up Samsung and Epson

South African channel giant Rectron has expanded its vendor portfolio, signing a deal with Samsung to distribute the vendor giant’s complete range of mono and colour laser printers and consumables across the country. Rectron has also struck a new distribution agreement with Epson. The deals come just weeks after HP and Rectron ended a printer distribution agreement. Read full story
