Netasq targets UK UTM market

European network security systems provider Netasq is targeting the UK unified threat management (UTM) market with three new systems that the company claims has five times the throughput performance of traditional systems at a highly competitive price. Magirus is Netasq’s sole distributor in the UK and provides resellers wide-ranging support including training, pre-sales support, installation and consultancy. Read full story

NEC partners benefit from pre-sales training

Aruba Networks has strengthened its European operation, opening an office in Rome, Italy. The wireless LAN and secure unified mobility solutions vendor now has EMEA field offices in the UK, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. FVC extends Google distribution deal

Middle East value-added distributor FVC will add Google’s enterprise search products to its portfolio. FVC already distributes Google’s security and compliance offerings. HP launches virtualisation roadshow

Technology giant HP has teamed up with AMD and VMWare for a Middle East virtualisation roadshow targeted at both partners and customers. The virtualisation roadshow, which kicks off in Dubai, will also visit Riyadh, Doha and Cairo. The roadshow will focus on the key business implications around ’virtualisation’, focusing on energy efficiency and reduction as well as hardware and maintenance costs in the office environment. Ironkey ramps up channel numbers

US-based flash drive vendor Ironkey has announced that more than 100 VARs are now signed up for its global channel programme. The vendor has also beefed up the benefits of its partner programme to provide even more comprehensive support to resellers. Alcock exits Morse

Kevin Alcock, chief executive at London-quoted UK-based integrator and IT services provider Morse, is leaving the company with immediate effect. Kevin Loosemore becomes executive chairman at the company. The news of Alcock’s departure was contained in a trading update from Morse, which revealed that sales for the year ending June 2008 would be marginally down compared to last year’s sales figure of US$507.8m. Maxdata insolvency proceedings begin

Insolvency proceedings have commenced for European hardware player Maxdata. The company filed for insolvency at the end of June 2008 in Essen, Germany. The local court has appointed Dr. Winfrid Andres as preliminary insolvency administrator and one of his first acts has been to transfer all UK sales and services operations to Maxdata’s Benelux subsidiary.
