Microsoft extends Comztek rights
Microsoft has extended Comztek’s distribution rights for finished goods in Southern Africa. The distributor will now cover Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Namibia and Zambia, while its existing South African distribution rights remain unaffected. Comztek’s Microsoft distribution rights for finished goods and OEM in East Africa, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Rwanda, have also been renewed.

Tegtmeier takes European channel role at Linksys
Consumer and small business networking outfit Linksys – a division of Cisco - has named Ulrike Tegtmeier as the new executive leader for its European sales organisation. As VP European markets, Tegtmeier will oversee Cisco’s consumer sales efforts across Western Europe including retail, distribution, e-commerce and VAR channels.

Under the terms of the distribution deal, Active will push a diverse range of storage products through the Middle East and African channel. Samsung claims that the growth in digital devices has driven demand in the storage market in the Middle East and Africa.

Actebis has announced that it successfully upgraded its ERP systems across six countries this summer, unlocking numerous business benefits for resellers in the process, according to the European distribution giant. Actebis switched from SAP R3 to SAP ERP 6.0 in an upgrade that was virtually unnoticed by the market – evidence of a smooth transition.

Merlion directors win Russian IT recognition
Vyacheslav Simonenko and Alexey Abramov, members of the executive team at Russian distribution giant Merlion, have been named among 25 winners for a recent magazine award. The awards, based on the decision of an expert panel of vendor executives, market analysts and commentators, picked the top 25 executives at Russian IT companies for 2008.

Middle East distribution powerhouse Mindware has opened an office in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Mindware, citing recent research, claims that the Saudi IT market will hit US$3.8 billion per annum by 2010, and the company wants a slice of the action. Mindware’s new Riyadh office is located in Olaya Street opposite the city’s Kingdom Tower.

Hardware giant Dell has appointed Aptec as a certified distribution partner in the UAE, Iraq, Jordan, Yemen and GCC excluding Saudi Arabia. Under the terms of the deal, Aptec will carry Dell servers, commercial client and enterprise products, storage solutions, laptops and desktops.

With Business Monitor International estimating that the Saudi IT market will be worth US$5 billion per annum by 2012, Acer will be looking to grab an even larger slice of the pie alongside its new channel partner.

Sandisk partners with CGC in Qatar
Memory vendor Sandisk has signed a distribution deal with Consolidated Gulf Company (CGC) in Qatar. CGC, which claims that it is the largest reseller of mobile phones and telecom and IT solutions in Qatar, will sell Sandisk storage and flash memory products in the country.
