Jacky’s positive about DSF potential
UAE ICT and consumer electronics (CE) retailer Jacky’s Electronics is upbeat on the sales potential during this month’s Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF). Jacky’s reckons that an influx of tourists from other GCC states, Russia and India will create the conditions required for sales growth. Jacky’s will offer several promotions to entice shoppers to splash out on products during DSF, which runs until February 3rd.

Chinese mobile device vendor Huawei has earmarked US$30m for a global consumer branding push, which it is calling ‘ascend to new heights’. The campaign, which is the company’s largest consumer campaign to date, will attempt to build Huawei’s brand equity as a player in the consumer device space. The campaign has been rolled out across 45 markets in 15 regions, including the UAE.

Darty to seek approval for Italian disposal
European ICT and consumer electronics (CE) retailer Darty will seek shareholder approval to proceed with the disposal of its Italian operations at a meeting scheduled for January 17th 2013. Darty is proposing to hand over its 20 Italian stores, staff and €3m (US$3.9m) cash to electronics retailer DPS. In return Darty would receive a 15% stake in DPS. Darty’s Italian operation has posted more than €100m (US$132m) in cumulative operating losses since 2005.

Elko adds Hyundai tablets to Russian portfolio
Emerging markets distributor Elko has picked up exclusive wholesaler rights to push Hyundai tablets in the Russian channel. Latvia-based Elko, which operates across the Baltics, Eastern Europe and Russia, struck an exclusive agreement with Blusafir Korea – a specialised Hyundai brand licensing company. Blusafir supplies Korean and Chinese manufactured IT products into the Russian market
