Extra opens first store in Qunfuda City

Saudi Arabia-based ICT and consumer electronics (CE) retailer Extra has opened its 30th store in the Kingdom, launching its first outlet in Qunfuda City. The new store covers 1,200 square metres and is located on King Fahd Road. Extra reckons that the outlet will serve a population of approximately 250,000, giving consumer access to more than 12,000 SKUs. Read full story

MEA consumers take to tablets

Research from GfK claims that 44% of computing devices sold to consumers in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region in the first quarter of 2013 were tablets – up from 23% a year earlier. According to GfK, unit sales in the MEA computing market – comprising desktops, notebooks and tablets – hit 2.88 million units in the first quarter of 2013, up 37.5% year-on-year.
