Belkin partners with AccessPlus for Africa
by Stuart Wilson, Thursday 5 July 2012
Accessories and networking vendor Belkin has struck an African partnership with logistics partner AccessPlus to help build its reach in the fast-growing region. AccessPlus will be working with Belkin to market and sell the vendor’s full product range in markets such as Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia, Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria.
Focused on the sub-Sahara and North Africa regions, Belkin hopes that the deal will help it increase its brand visibility and access to Africa’s billion-plus population. Research indicates that some 120 million Africans are already online and even more use mobile phones.
In 2011 Africa saw a 50% growth in the purchase and use of smartphones according to IDC and this creates potential demand for the peripherals that Belkin offers. The African technology market was worth around US$25 billion in 2011 according to IDC.
Walid Khaled, managing director at AccessPlus, said: “We have nearly 20 years’ experience in this field and we believe that this partnership between a global brand like Belkin and an experienced logistics company like us will be a win-win scenario.”
Youssef El-Arif, sales manager at Belkin MEA, commented: “In moving to meet the demand we have been seeing from various African markets, we need to feel confident of this partnership and entrusting the Belkin brand to AccessPlus is the right move.”
“It not only represents a real opportunity for our brand and the products we offer to be more readily available across Africa, but also means that we are offering consumers more choice,” added El-Arif.
AccessPlus is based in the UAE and was formerly operating as ARKA Corporation, founded in Lebanon in 1995 and serving contracts in construction and infrastructure. From 2003 the company expanded their operations to include Kuwait from where they serviced the Iraq market. In January 2012, ARKA Corporation was re-formed and rebranded AccessPlus and serves contracting and technology companies in the Middle East and Africa.
