DCC CIS pulls in 200-plus Russian retailers

by Stuart Wilson, Tuesday 24 June 2008

The fifth annual Digital Consumer Channel (DCC) CIS event cemented its credentials last week as the ultimate ‘must attend’ event for retailers, distributors and vendors selling through the retail channel in Russia and the CIS countries. More than 550 delegates gathered together at Le Meridien Moscow Country Club for the event, which included a compelling mix of one-on-one meetings, presentations, workshops and professional networking opportunities.

More than 40% of the vendors at DCC CIS attended the event for the very first time. Among the hundreds of retail delegates attending DCC CIS, some 70 executives are also attending for the very first time – testament to the continued expansion of the event. In total, more than 1,200 one-on-one meetings between vendors and retailers occurred during DCC CIS.

“Every year, we have seen more and more newcomers attend our conference,” said Frederic Simard, executive director at DISTREE Events, the organiser of DCC CIS. “This year’s expansion of product categories has seen the largest registration of new participants since the event was launched five years ago. We strive to refresh and develop the event format to ensure that it remains both relevant and productive to all the attendees.”

The retail executives attending DCC CIS represented more than 11,000 individual retail outlets from across the region. Almost three quarters of the retail delegates travelled to DCC CIS from outside Moscow, providing DCC CIS with impressive retail credentials. Delegates included senior executives from retail chains operating in Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgystan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan as well as Russia itself.

“To succeed in the Russian retail market it is important for vendors to meet the retailers face-to-face,” added Simard. “Russia and CIS are geographically vast and we remain committed to bringing together the principal retail executives in one place at one time, allowing vendors a unique opportunity to meet these important partners.”

With 75 retail-focused vendors meeting 200-plus retail chains from across the region during DCC CIS, the event has established itself as the ‘must attend’ event for executives working in the Russian and CIS retail channel for IT products and consumer electronics kit.

Anastasia Gruzd, channel manager at Lenovo Russia – one of the headline sponsors of DCC CIS – commented: “This is the key event for the consumer channel in Russia and CIS. And this is why we decided that we must be here as a sponsor. We are proud to be associated with DCC CIS and it is a very positive event that helps us in the Russian market.”

DCC CIS offered a compelling mix of pre-scheduled one-on-one meetings, boardroom sessions, keynote presentations, awards, workshops and evening entertainment, including a Euro 2008 themed party where delegates watched Russia earn a vital victory to progress even further in the tournament.

More than 20 vendors entered the famed DCC CIS ‘60 Seconds to Convince’ awards programme with BenQ winning the prize for Best Product Design and Lenovo landing the award for Best Product Innovation.

The DCC CIS pre-scheduled one-on-one meeting sessions once again proved immensely popular as vendors took the opportunity to meet with hundreds of key retail decision-makers from across the Russian market.

“Even people that did not have a booking with us are trying to approach us and arrange additional meetings,” added Gruzd. “We have an incredibly busy booth in the exhibition arena, which is great for Lenovo.”

Simard added: “DCC CIS is far removed from a traditional trade show. Our format and pre-event planning allows vendors and retailers to schedule their meetings ahead of the event. This is why vendors can derive so much value from attending the event. Our extensive research of the Russian retail market means that we attract the top executives from the top retailers. DCC CIS 2008 was a huge success and we have already begun planning for 2009. We will try and make more room at the event so even more vendors can take advantage of the unique channel development opportunities offered by DCC CIS.”

Vendors agreed that the unique DCC CIS format provided them with an incredible return on the time invested in attending the event.

“We have the ability to meet 200-plus executives working in the Russia IT and consumer electronics retail sector at this event,” said Emmanuel Vidal, VP EMEA at memory product vendor Dane-Elec. “This is definitely a big advantage as you don’t have to travel all over the Russian market to meet the. You come to DCC CIS and you meet the key decision makers and they are ready and willing to discuss business opportunities with you.”
