Genius grabs Retail Academy Award

Genius Computer Technology picked up the Retail Vendor of the Year Award for Accessories at the inaugural Middle East Retail Academy Awards held in conjunction with Digital Consumer Channel (DCC) Middle East and Africa (MEA). More than 100 senior retail executives took part in a live electronic voting process during the awards ceremony to determine the winner in each category.

“We consider this award as recognition for the efforts we pursue in our day-to-day business operations. This recognition also became possible because of the constant support and efforts put in by our valued channel partners,” commented Jihad Youssef, general manager at Genius.

Vendors were assessed on a number of criteria, including channel strategy, inventory management, margin potential, marketing, merchandising and support offered. Genius is a well established brand in the IT peripherals and accessories industry and shipped more than 400 million products worldwide during the year 2006-2007.

”This kind of award not only appreciates our efforts but also helps us to increase our efficiency in all core areas of our business. The Middle East Retail Academy award will create a positive impact to our organisation in the future,” concluded Youssef.

Prior to the awards ceremony, an executive committee of 20 top retail executives from across the region had taken part in a blind selection process to come up with a shortlist of five nominees for each vendor award category.

The executive retail committee assessed vendors on a number of criteria including: recognition of a successful channel management strategy; excellent inventory management; margin potential; co-marketing schemes; merchandising activity, product training and customer support.

Two clear favourites emerged during the live electronic voting process with Genius and Logitech vying for the accolade. In a close-fought vote, Genius emerged victorious grabbing an impressive 39% of votes cast with Logitech picking up 35%. Microsoft also put in a solid showing picking up 17% of the vote with Belkin and Targus picking up fourth and fifth spot respectively.

"The inaugural Middle East Retail Academy Awards, held in conjunction with DCC, were a huge success," said Farouk Hemraj, CEO and co-founder of DISTREE Events - the organiser of DCC MEA. "This was the first time that live electronic voting has been used to determine the winners of channel awards in this region. This transparent and fair voting system was a huge hit with all the attendees."
