Dell celebrates Retail Academy Award success

Hardware giant Dell is celebrating its success at the inaugural Middle East Retail Academy Awards, held in conjunction with Digital Consumer Channel (DCC) MEA. Dell picked up the Retail Vendor of the Year Award for Desktops / Notebooks with 32% of the votes cast during a live electronic voting session. “This is a moment of great pride and achievement for all of us,” commented Michael Collins, general manager at Dell Middle East.

“The award is a true recognition of Dell Middle East’s efforts in spearheading various initiatives to achieve market leadership and penetration. For instance, our strategies to expand Dell’s retail presence in the region by working closely with the retail channel partners, our efforts to boost consumer team performance and the rollout of improved products in response to customer feedback and demand such as revamped Inspirons and the redesigned XPS range of notebooks have all paid off,” Collins added.

“We are pleased since this acknowledgement comes at a time when we are being repeatedly recognised for our successes. Dell Middle East achieved the number one position in Saudi Arabia in the first quarter, and the number one position in Gitex in Saudi Arabia in April 2008, besides being accorded with other awards including Best IT new Product Launch for XPS, by Plug Ins. All these great wins give us a great platform to look forward to the completion of an exciting year ahead,” concluded Collins.

"The inaugural Middle East Retail Academy Awards, held in conjunction with DCC, were a huge success," said Farouk Hemraj, CEO and co-founder of DISTREE Events - the organiser of DCC MEA. "This was the first time that live electronic voting has been used to determine the winners of channel awards in this region. This transparent and fair voting system was a huge hit with all the attendees."

Dell picked up 32% of votes cast with HP coming in a close second with 30%. Acer, Toshiba and Fujitsu Siemens were third, fourth and fifth respectively. Prior to the awards ceremony, an executive committee of 20 top retail executives from across the region had taken part in a blind selection process to come up with a shortlist of five nominees for each vendor award category.

Pearce Clune, head of consumer for Dell Middle East, was on hand to receive the Retail Vendor of the Year Award for Desktops / Notebooks Award. In addition to this award, Brad Whatmough, retail manager for Dell Middle East, was a nominee in the Retail Channel Manager of the Year Award after being shortlisted by the executive committee of retailers prior to the event.

The executive retail committee assessed vendors on a number of criteria including: recognition of a successful channel management strategy; excellent inventory management; margin potential; co-marketing schemes; merchandising activity, product training and customer support.
