Expand opens Russian office

by Stuart Wilson, Thursday 29 May 2008

Expand Networks has ramped up its operation in Russia, opening an in-country office and appointing Albert Katsir as sales director in Russia. Expand, which specialises in application acceleration over the wide are network (WAN), reckons that there are significant growth opportunities within the Russian market. The company will now look to further develop its market reach and build upon its existing partner and customer channels.

Expand’s Compass Platform is already providing many Russian businesses with the application acceleration, WAN optimisation and wide area file services they require to overcome the latency and QoS challenges laid down by today’s distributed working environments.

Expand has already sold into many financial institutions including one of the largest high street banks, and has also been particularly successful in the energy, gas and telecoms sectors with high-profile customers including SurgutNeftGAs, Dasvidania and Equant Orange Business Services. Expand’s increased presence across Russia will see the company further develop its customer base across all vertical markets.

“There is a huge market for the superior capabilities and flexibility of our technology,” said Elie Barr, CEO at Expand Networks. “The ease of centralisation and management of the Expand Compass platform presents an incredibly appealing proposition for enterprises in the region – particularly when you consider the unique geography of the country and the dispersed environment that many operate in.”

Albert Katsir joins Expand from a RAD Group company where he held the position of director of international sales. In his new role as sales director, Katsir will oversee the next phase of Expand’s aggressive growth across Russia and will be responsible for day-to-day operations across the region.

“I’ve been aware of Expand’s unique technology and its business for some time now and am excited about being given the opportunity to accelerate the business in such a potentially lucrative market,” Katsir explained.

“I look forward to spearheading Expand’s growth strategy across the region and am confident that we can build upon the market success in EMEA and further drive the adoption of Expand technology in Russia,” Katsir added.

With so many disparate office environments across Russia, satellite networks have become common practice to assist organisations in business agility. Expand claims that its capability to accelerate all applications over satellite networks provides enterprises with a solid framework to address key business drivers, and resolve the challenges of their strategic IT initiatives.

Barr concluded: “We are delighted to welcome Albert into the fold. He has all of the skills, energy and leadership we require to further develop our market presence across Russia and look forward to his contribution to the continued success of our revenue channels in the area.”
