Meizu to increase presence in India

by Stuart Wilson, Friday 4 September 2015

Fast-growing China-based smartphone brand Meizu plans to increase its presence in India. Li Nan, VP of marketing at Meizu, stated: “We are happy to announce our entry into India through the MX5 and look forward to playing a leading role in shaping the smartphone market here. For the next few months, after-sales services will be the key focus for Meizu.”

“We currently have 28 customer service centres and are looking to take that number to 40 across 20 cities in the near future, to serve existing and potential customers better,” Nan added.

Meizu is one of the fastest growing smartphone brands in the world. Globally, the company increased its unit sales six fold year-on-year in the first half of 2015 to hit an impressive 8.9 million units.

Meizu sold 2.8 million units in August, indicating that its strong sales growth shows no signs of slowing down. Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba owns a minority stake in Meizu.

Meizu is also now in discussions with Foxconn to start manufacturing devices within India as the company looks to tap into growing demand for smartphones from Indian consumers. Meizu products are currently available in India through e-tailer Snapdeal.
