Nest extends European retail channel reach

by Stuart Wilson, Wednesday 10 September 2014

Smart home products and solutions outfit Nest Labs will extend its product availability into Belgium, France, Ireland and the Netherlands later this month. The Nest thermostat and Nest smoke and carbon monoxide alarm will be sold in 400 retail stores across Europe, with a further 150 stores to be added by the end of the year.

“The Nest Thermostat and Nest Protect are already helping people throughout the US, Canada and the UK save energy, stay comfortable, and improve home safety,” said Lionel Paillet, general manager of Europe at Nest. “While Nest products are currently sold in just three countries, there’s high demand for them around the world.”

In preparation for the launch of its products in France, Netherlands, Belgium and Ireland, Nest has customised not only the products – including recording local actors for the voice of the Nest Protect alarm – but marketing, packaging and the company’s online and retail presence as well. Customer support will be available in local languages and Nest is partnering with professional installers and energy companies in each country to bring the best experience to customers.

Nest also announced three new European energy partnerships, adding Direct Energie, Essent and Lampiris, to offer more people the opportunity to save energy as part of their energy plans.

Because the Nest Thermostat connects to the heating system using high-voltage cables, professional installation is highly recommended. Nest will launch with hundreds of Nest certified installers at launch.
