Drummond promoted to MEA role at Acer

by Stuart Wilson, Wednesday 27 November 2013

Hardware vendor Acer has named David Drummond as VP of its Middle East and Africa (MEA) operation. Drummond, who was country manager for Southern Africa, assumes the new MEA role immediately. Drummond’s promotion comes on the back of the departures of both Amin Mortazavi and Ali Nemati from Acer. Mortazavi held the role of VP MEA while Nemati served as general manager at Acer Middle East.

Drummond has a long standing relationship with Acer and served as country manager Southern Africa from 2003 to 2007. He recently rejoined the company in the same role.

In his new expanded role Drummond will continue as country manager for Acer Southern Africa while also taking on the roles and responsibilities of the new Acer MEA VP.

Acer claims that a business restructuring has been completed by its MEA management team. The vendor hopes to introduce more competitive products in the PC, tablet and smartphone space and stabilise its market share in the region.

“Continuing on the success of the region is a challenge that both myself and my team are very much looking forward to,” said Drummond. “Implementing Acer’s business strategies to achieve business objectives, customer satisfaction and the new business opportunities remain a priority.”

“We will continue to drive a profitable and sustainable business, whilst continuing to focus on the strategic initiatives and processes within the Acer infrastructure as the brand continues to drive the business forward,” he added.

CE ANALYSIS: Acer is in desperate need of both management and channel stability in the MEA region as it looks to rebuild its battered reputation. It has been a constant revolving door of management changes in recent years at Acer. Drummond has a long history with Acer and vast experience in the MEA region.
