DataSolutions boosts vendor portfolio

by Stuart Wilson, Wednesday 9 April 2008

Irish value-added distributor (VAD) DataSolutions has boosted its virtualisation credentials, adding DataCore Software and Marathon Technologies to its vendor portfolio. DataSolutions now claims to offer the most comprehensive virtualisation range in Ireland and reckons that inquiries in this space have tripled in the last three months.

DataSolutions also has exclusive distribution rights for Citrix XenServer in Ireland. DataSolutions claims that it is the first Irish distributor to offer high availability virtualisation from the desktop PC, through to the server and the datacentre, from one distribution point.

The recent Citrix acquisition of XenSource, combined with Marathon’s development of the first fault-tolerant, high availability solution for server virtualisation, has resulted in the most complete set of virtualisation offerings on the market. In addition to this mix, DataCore Software’s storage virtualisation solution is the first virtualisation platform integrating the management of storage area network (SAN) and network attached storage (NAS).

Nick Turnbull, Marathon Technologies director of sales, EMEA and Asia Pacific, said: “DataSolutions is one of Ireland’s most experienced distributors. Its long-standing relationships with Citrix and XenSource, coupled with its strong channel and ability to bring new technologies to market, made it an obvious partner for us.”

Nick Broadbent, UK managing director and EMEA operations at DataCore Software, said: “DataSolutions will prove to be a key distribution partner for DataCore in our continued efforts to strengthen our channel in Ireland. This relationship will give us access to resellers via a distributor with the training capabilities and resources to deliver an entire virtual infrastructure. ”

Michael O’Hara, managing director at DataSolutions, said: “The interest in virtualisation has definitely spiked in recent months. Since Citrix acquired XenSource, we’ve experienced a 200% increase in sales inquiries. The calls are coming in from both channel partners as well as from IT managers looking to virtualise more and more business critical applications.”

“The completion of these distribution agreements has given us the complementary virtualisation solutions required to allow us become the one-stop-shop virtualisation distributor,” O’Hara added.
