Tinglobal picks up Powercore

by Stuart Wilson, Thursday 3 April 2008

Tinglobal, the parent company behind international refurbished high-end IT kit dealer Tindirect, has hit the acquisition trail, snapping up Powercore International and French operation Powercore SAS for an undisclosed sum. Tindirect works in the global business-to-business market for refurbished and reconfigured midrange computer equipment, including servers, storage, parts and associated services and networking infrastructure.

Powercore is a midrange hardware trading house that also provides contracted hardware and support services to resellers and service companies. Powercore, which has annual sales in excess of US$18m, employs 40 staff and has offices in the UK, France and Poland.

Tindirect specialises in a number of major vendors including IBM, Sun, Cisco and HP platforms. Powercore owner Darren Bland is pleased that the company has found a good home. Bland is buying out Recarta IT, an independent computer consultancy, from the Powercore Group.

Tinglobal’s chairman David Gutteridge, said: “Both Tindirect and Powercore have extremely strong brand identities in the channel. Though both adopt an unequivocal partner-focused strategy with no end user engagement, the strengths of the two companies are remarkably complementary.”

Mat Jordan, sales director at Tinglobal, added: “Both companies will continue to operate with their existing management teams and trade independently. The acquisition marks in no uncertain terms our intention to progress toward our goal of being acknowledged as Europe’s leading supplier of used hardware solutions and services.”

Rod Haddrell, Tinglobal’s managing director, has declared that the group will increasingly focus on its Tinservices division, which provides specialist inventory management, installation and site engineering.

With Powercore inside the group, Tinglobal reckons that its annual sales will top the US$50m mark and help position the company as one of Europe’s largest independent midrange hardware, parts and associated service providers.
