Bytes signs SCI for Xerox kit in Tanzania

by Stuart Wilson, Friday 3 July 2009

Bytes Document Solutions, authorised distributor of Xerox products and solutions to 24 African countries, has appointed Service and Computer Industries (SCI) Tanzania as a distributor. Bytes, which has annual sales in excess of US$220m, has embarked on a programme to expand its African footprint and deepen penetration into various markets on the continent.

“We appointed SCI Tanzania as our partner in Tanzania because they have a wealth of experience in the markets we serve in that country, and they have an established portfolio of customers and partners that will strengthen representation of the Xerox products and solutions in Tanzania,” said Coenraad Ackerman, Africa operations manager at Bytes.

"They have a strong reputation as an independent services provider and entrenched partnerships with some of the world’s leading ICT companies, demonstrating a depth of experience that makes SCI Tanzania an ideal partner for us," added Ackerman.

Ravi Ravishanker, director and GM at SCI Tanzania, commented: “We represent a number of top brands in the IT industry in Tanzania and it made sense to complement those with the Xerox range and continue to bring the best solutions in their category to our customers.”

SCI Tanzania has a team experienced in the office automation market and is expanding its number of experienced and qualified sales and service staff to ensure they can deliver Xerox quality to customers in Tanzania.

SCI Tanzania will get product training, product information, marketing support, and guidance from Bytes Document Solutions in South Africa, which has a Xerox-certified training centre in Johannesburg for this purpose for the launch of Xerox products and solutions into Tanzania.

“One of our primary goals initially will be to create widespread awareness of the Xerox range and the fact that we will provide and support it throughout the country,” said Ravishanker. “We have our own workforce of skilled technicians in the country so we expect to continue the standard of service delivery that Xerox is known for throughout Africa, and for that matter, around the world. We expect that, with the initial awareness programme, seamless supply and consistent support, the production equipment segment of the market will perform well.”
