Emax opens giant store in Dubai

by Stuart Wilson, Monday 6 April 2009

Retailer Emax has opened what it claims is Dubai’s largest consumer electronics store. The 115,000 square feet store, which is located in the Oasis Centre on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai, UAE, stocks more than 300 brands of consumer electronics and electrical appliances, according to Emax.

Emax is the retail division of Max Electronics and forms part of the Landmark Group. The company has extensive plans to expand Emax’s presence in Dubai and the wider GCC region as well.

Neelesh Bhatnagar, CEO at Max Electronics, said: “We are extremely pleased to be launching our flagship store in Dubai at the Oasis Centre and this new outlet is a significant stepping stone in our plans to expand Emax’s presence across the UAE and the region as a whole.’

Established in June 2005, Emax has grown rapidly and now has 11 stores across the GCC. The retailer plans to open a total of 33 outlets in the region - eventually covering more than 1.5 million square feet. In terms of sales, the company hopes to reach a turnover of US$600m in 2010

Bhatnagar added: “The Emax store at Oasis Centre has been designed to seamlessly enhance the shopping experience and I extend a warm welcome to everyone to visit the store and experience the great ambience, helpful, friendly and insightful staff, and of course the wide array of products and services we have to offer.”

Emax has been at the forefront of developing some of the most unique retailing concepts and claims to have pioneered the big box retail format in the Middle East.

Emax offers a wide range of goods and services including consumer electronics as well as related merchandise such as computers, computer software and peripherals, video games, music, DVDs, blu-ray discs, mobile phones, digital cameras, car stereos and video cameras, as well as home appliances such as washing machines, dryers, and refrigerators.

Bhatnagar concluded: “Emax has established itself as a leading consumer electronics retailer in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, and now with the opening of its store at the Oasis Centre - the largest electronics store in Dubai - it is all set to take the city by storm.”

More than 100 senior retail executives from 15-plus countries will attend Digital Consumer Channel (DCC MEA) MEA in May 2009. The event offers vendors and distributors insight into markets across the region and the opportunity to accelerate or improve their go-to-market retail strategy.

For more information on DCC MEA please visit the event website. Qualifying retailers receive free accommodation, meals and airport transfers for the event. Please note that vendor spaces are strictly limited at DCC MEA and are available on a first come first served basis.
