Tarsus bags Brocade rights

by Stuart Wilson, Tuesday 10 February 2009

Tarsus Technologies has secured the distribution rights for Brocade switches and host bus adapters (HBAs) in South Africa. The team at Tarsus reckons that the deal widens its enterprise solutions focus. Tarsus will use its indirect experience of Brocade kit gleaned from working with other enterprise computing vendors in recent years. Brocade kit forms the basis of solutions from major vendors such as HP and IBM.

Greg Pothitos, HP ESS business unit manager at Tarsus, said: "Our representation of HP and IBM has previously given us access to certain Brocade products, but never as complete a range of solutions as we now have access to. Given that these solutions were generally also branded HP or IBM, we found it difficult to enter customer accounts that weren’t already IBM or HP loyal. By having Brocade solutions on board, we now have that capability."

Nick Pateman, territory manager for South Africa and Africa at Brocade, said: “We are very pleased to have Tarsus on board as this relationship enables Brocade to access a broader segment of system integrators in the South African market."

Pothitos added: "As a well-recognised name in the storage infrastructure game, the market will no doubt be extremely keen to get its hands on Brocade HBAs - that in itself will allow us to make great inroads with the brand.”

Brands represented by Tarsus include Acer, APC Cisco, HP, IBM, Lenovo, OKI, Samsung, TallyGenicom, Targus and Wyse Technology.
