Asbis picks up Western Digital rights

by Stuart Wilson, Monday 9 February 2009

Emerging markets distribution powerhouse Asbis has bolstered its storage portfolio, signing a comprehensive European distribution deal with Western Digital (WD). Under the terms of the deal, Asbis is authorised to sell WD hard drives for desktop, mobile, audio-video and enterprise storage applications across Europe and the CIS via distribution centres and offices located in more than 26 countries.

“This strategic partnership with Asbis underscores Western Digital’s commitment to the CIS region. We are now in a better position to service this growing market with an established, reputable partner that will offer our customers not only the best products and technology but the best possible end-to-end customer experience,” said Peter Edinger WD’s VP of EMEA sales.

Laurent Journoud, executive VP for sales and marketing at Asbis, added: “We strongly believe that our cooperation with Western Digital will be extremely beneficial for the vendor, for us, and especially for end-users of storage products in Europe and [the] CIS region. We intend to unite our market knowledge and permanently expanding customer base with expertise of the second largest hard drives manufacturer in order to provide our partners with well-balanced product portfolio and full support.”

Asbis also made a significant acquisition at the end of January 2009. The distributor splashed out US$1.24m to purchase the IT4Profit software platform, which is used by Asbis and its subsidiaries to organise electronic data interchange (EDI) with partners and customers and online sales. The deal gives Asbis full ownership of the software platform.
